We have stayed at Honey Creek five times over the last 2 years.... we truly love it! The amenities are top notch! I always get reminded of the resort in Dirty Dancing when we are at Honey Creek - there are planned activities through out the day for guests! The lake and lake activities, golf, and a wonderful indoor water... More

We had around 50 customers + family here for a couple of days, and nothing but rave reviews. The place was just built in 2008 (I think) and the facilities are top notch. We were able to go on a guided kayak tour around the lake one morning for a couple of hours; wildlife encountered included deer, herons and a... More

A family celebration recently took me to Honey Creek Resort on large, remote Lake Rathbun in south-central Iowa. The resort features generous public spaces and spacious, well-appointed rooms with dungeon-like lighting. There are also "luxury" cabins, a campground (RV park), golf course, small marina, indoor pool and water park, bar and a restaurant that seems to cook every part of... More

If you need a family get away or want to golf off the beaten path, then, Honey Creek is for you. This beautiful state park is a gem in the rough. The location is 1.5 hours from Des Moines IA but worth the drive through beautiful farmland. The have a small indoor waterpark with a lazy river, an arcade, and... More

16 of us stayed in 3 of the cabins over the 4th of July weekend. The cabins are nice, not overly roomy, but kept up well. 5 or 6 cabins are grouped in spread out areas a short distance from the main lodge. There are nice walking trails which connect to all the cabin areas. We brought 2 power boats... More

This is definitely a well kept nice hotel and area. It's more of a 3 maybe a 3.5 star resort/hotel. I liked all the activities that were offered for families from fun crafts to stand up paddle boarding to night fishing (poles provided) etc. We rented bikes and took advantage of the trails and rode to the park. Lots of... More

4 adults and 2 kids stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin for 2 nights in July. Cabin was great. Nothing fancy, but very clean and just what you expect from a cabin. It was nice as most of the cabins were about 5 in a cul-de-sac, and kids could ride bikes or play ball freely. I don't think any cabins... More

My expectations of the resort were pretty low. Let's face it, you are in the middle of nowhere Iowa. The closest off-site restaurant seems to be a little place called the Corn Crib, which appears to be in someone's barn. Anyway, if seclusion is what you are looking for, then this is the right place. The grounds are beautiful and... More

A group of us guys meets up every year to play golf in Iowa and we'd been meaning to try Honey Creek/The Preserve for some time. It certainly didn't disappoint. The course was challenging but fun and in great shape. The cabins were spacious, well-appointed, and provided everything we needed. We also liked having the option of going to the... More

The resort is located in an out of the way area, very pretty, nice view of the lake (if you are lucky enough to have a lake view room). The only downside of the room is the lighting in the bathroom, very, very dim lights - no makeup mirrors :( Ate at the restaurant twice - very good and reasonably... More
