We just returned from a trip to Galena, IL where we had originally planned to stay in a B&B, but were too late to get a room there and ended up finding the Richards House in Dubuque (15 miles away). We were happy it turned out this way as we would not have spent any time in Dubuque otherwise, and... More

We have stayed once or twice a year for many years. The food is excellent, Michelle is a wonderful hostess and goes out of her way to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. There are always drinks and snacks available. Last time we were there we were not able to get the room we normally get and had to take... More

Although the price is cheap and the rooms could be beautiful I would never stay here again, nor would I recommend it to my worst enemy. My husband and I went here for our anniversary and were extremely disgusted to the point where we tried to find other accommodations. Unfortunately it was a holiday weekend and everything nearby was booked.... More

We could not believe the condition of the exterior and most of the guest quarters of this once beautiful old home. It is hard to see how the city of Dubuque allows it to stay in business because of the gaping holes in ceilings, windows, etc. There is considerable damage to the premises due to the owners inability to keep... The place is beautiful, the owners are very nice, breakfast is great, and is served at whatever time you request, which was a very nice surprise. Michelle was very helpful in every way and very flexible with check out time as well. The place is being renovated so the prices are better then in other inns. The noise on the... More

If you enjoy old homes and their architecture, this is a play you have to visit. The old wooden staircases, moldings, doors, stained glass windows, wallpaper, and the smell that only comes from the old woodwork, makes this an architects dream. They are still in the process of renovating the house, and the outside of the house needs loving care,... More

Thank you for the kind words. On the cable reception: We have digital cable and have not had any problems. Some channels are analog, but most are digital. We have all new digital ready TV's also. It can be a problem for someone not familiar with a particular TV to get the right digital channel because they must put the... More

The hosts are so helpful and friendly, that you almost feel you already know them. Our room was large and filled with priceless antiques, just as the rest of the house was. We even had a lovely fireplace to warm up by. The bathroom was in the midst of renovation, but certainly useable. Breakfast was fantastic, better than the best... More

I was looking for a special and romantic place for me and my husband to stay for our 30th wedding anniversary this past week-end. The Richards House first appealed to me due to the room rates. Our stay was PERFECT! The breakfast meals were excellent. The hostess was delightful. We had a fire in the fireplace, wine to drink, soft... More

My wife and I enjoyed our visit to the Richards House. We stayed in the Library Room and really enjoyed the two fireplaces and the ambiance of the room. The interior and exterior of the house needs some work (touchy faucets, light switches, hangers, etc.), but the Library Room setting is well worth any minor inconveniences. Wine, soda and bakery... We recently stayed there for a weekend away. The interior of the house is incredible, though they are working on updating/repairing the exterior. The breakfasts were great with tons of food. We had fresh fruit, an egg dish, bacon, and a coffee cake type dish each day. They do have cats that roam the commons areas, so if you have... More
