OK, the place is a little weird, but in a good way. The décor (if you can call it that) is eclectic. Think Grandmas house. A buddy and I took an overnight motorcycle trip from Milwaukee to Dubuque and rooms were either sold out or more than we wanted to pay (think Green Bay when the Packers play) We got... More

To the person that was worried about smoke smell. Well, your perfume was too strong for me and made me gag! It is all about being different and seeing others' taste in decorating. I loved it at the Canfield Inn!!! You can stay in the right lane and stay at the cookie-cutter motels/hotels all you want, but I am stepping... More

My husband and I used to own a boat on the Mississippi in Dubuque, so we were familiar with the Canfield, but had never stayed there. We sold our boat about a year ago and were headed up to Madison, WI and wanted to stay in Dubuque in the downtown area on the way up. It was a Saturday night,... More

I was told by many friends and family " it's a riot", the place is decorated from the 60's-70's very odd and different. I am sick of the same old hotel stay, everything soooo the same...I am looking for some fun and not to be mean but, a good laugh from yesterdays cheap décor. I want to be entertained by... More

We've just returned from a two night stay at the Canfield. We chose this hotel for it's location, price and eccentric personality and will most likely be staying here any other time we come to Dubuque. This hotel is within walking distance of most port of Dubuque attractions (which was what we wanted). Within a 1/2 to 3/4 mile radius... More

the entire place is filthy and smells of smoke and if you want to feel safe I wouldn't suggest staying here. It offers rooms for rent by the month so you can imagine the crowd of people that are LIVING in this hotel! would definitely not just for any type of family with the unusual crowd that hang around and... My daughter and I chose to stay at the Canfield after reading the reviews from others. What a place! Our room decor was straight out of an 80s mobile home bedroom: shiny black and red! We were on the 5th floor and the heat is from radiators and is controlled from one thermostat at the office. Guests could lower or... More

I read the reviews and was prepared for what we found. It was not a bad stay but not as charming as these other reviews had led me to believe. The wax indians in the lobby were a bit jarring walking in at midnight. The decor isn't so much retro as it is chevy conversion van. There was no air... More

I read the reviews, so I knew what to expect. The room was ultra clean and the staff friendly and helpful.I am a single female and it was my first visit to Dubuque. The furniture was old, but comfortable. There was a ceiling fan, micro, small frig and cable TV....all that I needed! I was very satisfied with the rate... More
