No Air Conditioning regardless of what is advertised! Super old hotel. It was probably nice in the 1800's. What I would expect in a 3rd world country. I checked my room, laughed extremely hard, then got the hell out of there!

Priceline had a good special on this hotel, and I took it because I needed to be downtown but didn't want to pay downtown prices. My room, bed and bath were all clean, I could tell the stained carpet was recently cleaned, but the stains were too old to come out. This hotel is due to close and be renovated,... More

This hotel was advertised as a 3 star hotel. It may have been at one time, but it can no longer make that claim. The hotel is beautiful and was the talk of the town in 1919. However, today it needs a lot of work. We arrived in Des Moines on June 10, 2015. It was 92 degrees and humid.... More

This is the worst hotel experience I have ever had. If I could give a ZERO rating, I would. A rating of 1 is far too generous. It has no air conditioning and management decision to not fix it. I have stay in many hotels for many many years and this has to the be on the top my list... More

Upon arrival, there was nothing out of the ordinary. It was cool in the lobby and the elevator. However, we arrived in our room to find the window open and one small fan running. After trying to start the air conditioning unsuccessfully, we called the front desk. The front desk claimed they only have one old air conditioning unit that... More

This is a god awful hotel. It has no air conditioning and they did not have enough fans to accommodate guests. It is absurdly hot in here. I would never EVER recommend this hotel to anyone. By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Completely and totally dissatisfied.

The whole trip was ruined by this awful hotel. Apparently it is between management as only 2 staff were working in the entire building for our trip mid week this week. We arrived shortly after 4, and after speaking with a relatively rude receptionist, for our key cards for our rooms. Heading upstairs, all of us were surprised to be... More

I was booked by my company in this Hotel because unfortunately the rooms at the hotel where our meeting was held was fully booked possibly because of the World Pork Expo this week. Room was dated, rugs seems to need at least a good cleaning or better yet replaced. The room was supposed to have wifi and even had a... More

I had visited this hotel two years ago for an event, and had heard it was dated. Unfortunately, due to several major events taking place in Des Moines area, this was the only available property. I was not thrilled, but what else could I do. I got there around 1:15 in the afternoon, expecting to check in and get some... More

I have to take some blame - I read the reviews on here before booking and thought, "it can't be that bad." I'm low-maintenance and was just in town for Dam-to-Dam and looking for a bed with WiFi. I should have taken the air conditioning concerns more seriously - I was told it is run off a single unit and... More
