I recently stayed at the Renaissance Savery Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa. I'm a big fan of Renaissance hotels and was overall very happy with my experience in Iowa. Great location. I will say, however, that the bathroom in my king room was particularly small. Had I been staying with just one other person, it would have been cramped. On... more

The hotel had a lot of historic charm, and was very close to our theater venue downtown, so it's convenience couldn't be beat. The room was clean and the bed very comfortable. However, a few things put us off on the Savery - the bathroom was minuscule, almost comically so. We made jokes about it to each other. If the... more

Hotel is handy to downtown financial district by utilizing the many blocks of skywalks in Des Moines. Staff was friendly and always willing to go the extra mile to help. more

Downtown Des Moines is, let's face it, not a touristic destination. The capitol dome, nicely and newly covered in bright gold, beckons in the distance, as does the Iowa State Fair in July, still further on. I chose the Savery for an overnight and have been there as well in past years, primarily as they have king and queen sized... more

If you want to stay in downtown Des Moines, this hotel is a decent choice. However, there is nothing overly special with this property. Valet parking is $15/day vs. park yourself in neighboring garage for $11/day. Service and friendliness of hotel staff is very good and helpful. I was initially booked in a fifth floor room which had zero view.... more

A friend and I stayed here for Winefest. The hotel was right across the street from Captial Square/Nollen Plaza where our event was held. It is easy walking distance to many restaurants and shopping in the East Village. After reading on Trip Advisor that some double rooms had two bathrooms I requested that. Our room was perfectly clean, the most... more

This was my first trip to Des Moines, and was pleasantly pleased with this property located right in the middle of "downtown" (Downtown in quotes as I'm a born and bred Manhattanite . . .). It is an older building and although common areas have been updated and the room had a nice large flat screen TV, its age does... more

Really nice hotel; not overly busy. Its historic character gives it a unique sense of place -- you're in Des Moines -- not like the usual anonymous hotel that could be anywhere. The recent modernization of the hotel was very tasteful, maintaining its character while having all the up-to-date conveniences you would want. Fitness center needs some work, though. more

I booked this hotel because we wanted to stay downtown in a nice hotel with a fair price. Had no idea that the room would be as small as it was, but it was really cute! Great bed and bedding, amenities, and I lucked out with a great view of the capitol (my sister, however, overlooked the buildings hvac units).... more

We stayed at this hotel for two nights and the room was nice. The bed was very comfortable, the comforter was nice and fluffy great for sleeping under because they froze you out, we could not get the heat to come on in our room. We had to snuggle down under the comforter. It was one of the down comforters... more
