We found this hotel charming and clean. Others have complained about its size but we found it to be adequate for what we were in town for. Our favorite thing was every late afternoon there was some sort of treat put out for the guests. One afternoon raspberries and cream and the other zucchini bread. They also had complimentary red... I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The Iowa State Fair was in town and this hotel was close to the shuttle. The rooms are average size and the bathroom average also. The bed was comfortable. I had put an order for room service breakfast on the door before midnight as was instructed on the order form. The next morning,... More

Used this hotel as a launching pad for the Iowa State Fair. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful including a very convenient valet service. The hotel itself is dated. While historic, there are things that could use updating such as the AC units (didn't work in my room), the bathrooms (no exhaust fans), and the elevators. It got... More

Second time at the Savery. Location is great with easy access to the downtown Farmer's Market (which is outstanding), events like the Italian-American Fest, etc. Parking is a bit of a hassle with choices being either Valet or a public ramp across and down the street. The ramp is actually inexpensive for in-city parking, especially on the weekend. During my... More

My first trip to Des Moines and I thought I'd try something downtown. While it was a bit of commute to where I was working, I thought being downtown would allow me to explore a bit more of this mid-western city. In truth, upon arriving back at the hotel every night, it was too late to go exploring. So my... More

We made a reservation over the phone for a king larger studio room. When we arrived, we were given a double bed larger studio room. When we went to the front desk to alert the manager, he stood there looking at his cell for about 30 seconds until he finally looked up at us. he never made eye contact and... More

Was there for a family wedding the weekend of July 12th. Had a slight problem with my room and it was taken care of quickly. Was also offered a discount for my inconvenience. Everyone at the hotel were polite and went out of the way to make our stay a comfortable one. Great location for downtown activities. Fabulous Farmers Market.

To begin with, we arrived at the hotel and the doorman watched as we struggled to unload our various suitcases and bags without botthering to help- I have never had that experience before. The check-in was easy enough and we were offered complementary champagne-nice touch. There are only two rather slow elevators so prepare to wait, to get to where... More

We were on a trip to the races in Newton and stayed here. It was set up for us as we had won a sweepstakes. I would never had known of it otherwise. I liked the location, it was near lots of Parks. (Des Moines has a lot of parks) Farmers Market, the Capitol, which we could see from our... More
