Stayed one night en route I-80. The inn is a restored mansion, with lovely comfortable rooms. Parlor is beautiful, with moldings on the ceiling. Hosts are very helpful about recommending nearby local restaurants, suggesting only local businesses, not chains. Breakfast was excellent. Might have to go back and enjoy the sights of Des Moines sometime.

Thank you for your hospitality. The bed was very comfortable. I was able to catch up on my sleep. I work graveyard hours. The breakfast was perfect. It was a nice getaway. Thank you from Rita Bennett and Steve Nordstrom from Westminster Colorado

On a long winter drive across country my wife and I needed a romantic break from franchise motels and we found it at the butler house in Des Moines. From the moment owner and hostess Loren greeted us at the door, our stay was a delight. Arriving mid-afternoon, we unpacked and asked if we could sip a glass of wine... More

My first business visit to Des Moines and the downtown hotels were packed. Someone suggested the Butler House on the Grand and it was the best decision we could have made. I stayed in the Butler's Master Suite on the 2nd floor. It was so spacious, included a vanity area, very comfortable bed and I felt right at home. The... More

My parents in law live in southern Missouri and we live in central Minnesota, so Des Moines seemed like a good half way meeting place. We spent two nights at the Butler House on Grand and thoroughly enjoyed it. We made good time on the drive, so arrived a bit early, but Clark and Lauren were kind enough to let... More

Thank you for taking time to write comments about our B&B. The only we can get better is by honest, thoughtful comments. We do apologize for the wallpaper. It is coming down and we will just paint the ceiling. As far as the old fixtures, those are original fixtures in our 1923 house and we try to keep as much... More

Enjoyed two comfortable nights at this B&B. Filling, tasty breakfasts, Lauren takes great care to find out about your dietary needs; well stocked fridge for all guests to help themselves to soft drinks; lots of local knowledge from Clark and Lauren is at your disposal too. Lovely couple.

We stayed at this B&B for our wedding/honeymoon in 2010. The area itself is pristine and clean. The house is close to town and attractions. I recommend visiting the rose garden while there and the downtown parks. The house is beautiful and the host has a fantastic breakfast every morning. It's a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, very private and comfortable.... More

My daughter and I spent a quick night here during her orientation at DMU. Everything was rainbows with out the rain. The room was beautiful and large and made us feel like royalty. The community fridge was well stocked with cold beverages. Turn down service added a sweet treat to our sweet dreams. And the breakfast, fresh fruit, stuffed french... More

Butler House is gracious, comfortable and well located. We rented 4 rooms for 2 nights for our party of 7 and loved each room for it's charm and features. All beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were delicious, with Lauren taking care to ask about food preferences, and catering to a gluten-free guest. Clark and Lauren could not have been more... More

Generally we really enjoyed our time there. The owners were very friendly, helpful in giving directions and recommendations for attractions in the area. Parking was easy during our stay (it wasn’t a full house, not sure if it is more difficult when all of the rooms are booked) and the breakfast was wonderful. I appreciated the soda/water availability outside of... More
