Our room was very comfortable, the staff was very accommodating, and I loved being right in the center of Decorah. There is an old-fashioned elegance about the hotel that makes it more interesting than our usual chain of hotels stay.

I was in the hotel for two nights and found everyone there to be great, friendly, accommodating, and caring. The hotel is a beautiful restored place, full of charm, and a great size, right on the main street in downtown and across from a JC Penny. There's no mall so the department store is downtown in the old fashioned way.... More

My wife and I decided on a last-minute trip to NE Iowa to do some bike riding enjoy the fall colors. The Trout Run bike trail was the main reason for choosing Decorah. We tried to book a B&B, but there were no rooms at the inns. We were pleasantly surprised to find a vacancy at the Winneshiek. The hotel... More

Having read excellent reviews for Hotel Winneshiek, we decided to spend our Anniversary weekend here. Upon arrival we were told that the hotel's AC was out and would be for the foreseeable future. The front desk was unapologetic but offered to bring a fan to our room. Not what we wanted to hear when paying top dollar! When we got... More

We wanted a mid-week getaway and found that Decorah, Iowa was only 150 miles from our home in Minneapolis. We "splurged" and chose the Presidential Suite and were amazed and pleased with the quality and furnishings of this lovely room. This is more than a hotel, it is a "work of art". The room was ready when we arrived, the... More

I stayed at Hotel Winneshiek during a family visit to Decorah this summer. The hotel was very clean, very comfortable, and had all of the amenities that you would expect from a 5-star hotel. The historical setting is intimate, beautiful and very well maintained. I enjoyed interacting with the staff at the front desk, the restaurant, and especially the Tap... More

We recently stayed at the Hotel Winneshiek [0816/2014] and found the our room accommodations to be poor to say the least...for senior citizens the tub was too high and with no hands rails was very challenging and dangerous to get in and out - no mention of this when we checked in. The carpet in the room was extremely dirty... More

This great small hotel is as grand as any, but could be considered a B&B due to its intimate size. The food at the restaurant is excellent along with the nice wine list. Get reservations as it is usually full, which is quite a feat in a rural Iowa town. Highly recommended.

We went to Decorah for our anniversary. Hotel Winneshiek has a nice old-world feel to it. Our room (kingsize room) was larger than expected. The bed was comfy. The room and the bathroom were clean, and we really liked our stay. We would definitely stay here again. But in the interest of information, there were some minor issues. First, the... More

Thank you for spending your anniversary with us and taking the time to write a very informative in depth review. In an effort to better control water temp in the future we have replaced all of the balance valves( Which control the mix of hot and cold water) in each of the guest room showers. Thank you again for the... More
