Yes, the beautiful historic building and its restoration are exemplary, and it's worth a walk-through visit or meal or drink in the restaurant or tap room, but it's as if thinking stopped after the physical work was completed. The devil's definitely in the details at the Winneshiek. I'd recommend you visit, but sleep elsewhere. Here's what detracted. An in-room coffee-maker... More

I just enjoyed a one night stay and wish it could have been longer. An absolutely beautiful historic hotel in pristine condition. The staff are phenomenal. Peggy is the true ambassador for Hotel Winneshiek. She was so helpful from my first phone call requesting a room near others in my group. She is gracious and kind and such a pleasure... More

Coming back from St. Louis my wife and I decided to make a stop at this hotel. Wow, we're we impressed. The price was very reasonable, service quite good, and the restaurant above average. The Iowa pork chop was perfectly cooked and the sides complimented the dish very well. We skipped dessert and had a nightcap instead. They make great... More

Traveling through Decorah my wife and I found the Hotel Winneshiek, which is on the Natl Register of Historic places, and rightfully so! Beautiful room--tastefully decorated--large and had everything you could want. We had a third story room at a very decent rate. We ate lunch and dinner at the hotel---great food and presentation--our waiter Chris, a student at local... More

This place is worth a trip to visit. A couple of years ago my wife and I passed through Decorah quickly and new we needed to come back because of how nice the town looked. We visited it again the last week of May and stayed at Hotel Winneshiek. The location was great. It is a wonderful hotel with incredible... More

Stayed at this historical beautiful hotel in Decorah , IA for my son's graduation at Luther College. The hotel itself is historical. Bed was comfy, flat screen TV, newly renovated bathroom, with a wonderful bath tub equipped with whirlpool. Handles on both tub and shower, in golden color. Our room was on second floor, with window facing Water Street. You... More

The Winneshiek is on Water Street, the main street of Decorah, within easy walking distance of the Norwegian Museum and restaurants. There is adequate parking at the rear of the hotel - there is a nice rear entrance. The hotel has three stories and the rooms are located around an octagonal core so the lobby is visible from all floors.... More

The Winneshiek is an example of faded glory. Our room was in great need of a renovation. Our traveling companion had a refreshed room which was very nice. Other parts are currently under renovation. There is an entrance to the Steyer theatre on the third floor. Try to stay near the Water Street side of the Hotel.

The Hotel Winneshiek is one of our favorites. The only reason I didn't give it an excellent is that the restaurant is being remodeled and the construction crew is very much present in the lobby area. But the room is great. The staff is great. The price is reasonable for the quality of the hotel. If the hotel restaurant is... More

Hotel Winneshiek is by far the best hotel in Decorah. The management and staff are warm and welcoming and make you feel right at home.
