My husband and I stayed here with friends in June 2014 for a kayak trip on the Upper Iowa River. Our group stayed Friday and Saturday nights in Cabins 1 and 2 and in a camper that our friends pulled in between the two cabins (there are electrical outlets on the back of the cabins). There is quite a bit... More

My family and I stay in June of 2012 when there was a bit of a drought. The river was low but it was still SO very nice to canoe on with the rentals Chimney Rock Campground offered. The site we got was plenty big and we were not back to back with other sites!! It was SO nice to... More

We stayed here from a Thursday to a Sunday in one of the cabins. Thursday was very relaxing, very few people were around. I was a bit concerned about the weekend as I had booked before I found the reviews, but we really did not have any problems where we were. Yes there were fireworks going off at night (not... More

Sorry, Chimney Rock Campground... this place is beautiful but a drunken mess. The Upper Iowa River is gorgeous, but we'll stay away from this campground in the future. - FOUR rotting dead racoon in the woods surrounding our campsite = nasty stink - Drunken Idiots lighting fireworks and homemade pipe-bombs (seriously) at 1am - Said drunken idiot-couples showering in the... I am sorry you had an unpleasant experience. I personally manicure the property (about 23 hrs per week) and have never smelled anything rotten or seen multiple dead coon. I police the property until 12 am and I don't drink so I rarely socialize with my customers. I sleep fully clothed in my recliner every weekend May through September so... More

As opposed to some of the other reviews talking about noise and alcohol, my experience was quite different. I took my Boy Scout Troop for a day trip on the Upper Iowa River and a night at the campground before traveling back home. Granted we were there on a Wednesday, but we only ran into one other group of people... More

This is no place for peace and quiet. It's overrun with falling down drunks, stereo-blaring yeehaws, and fools tearing up and down the gravel road non-stop, sometimes with their kids riding on the outside of vehicles. Fireworks (the really big stuff) went on all day and night, and management didn't give a hoot. My dog has been around plenty of... More

I apologize for your negative experience at Chimney Rock. Holiday weekends can be full of enregy and this year (2013) everyone seemed to have cabin fever as the river was flooded nearly through the end of June and July 4th weekend was my first busy weekend of the summer, I do want to respond to your reference about frat houses,... After reading reviews of this campground I was very hesitant to try them, but am very glad we did. "Party campground" does seem to fit. Yes, there were a lot of groups consuming alcohol and I am sure many of them were pretty noisy. But, the campground is huge, when I made my reservation I requested "quiet" and the person... More

I knew we were in trouble when upon check-in they require you to sign a legal waiver that all the campground is in good order. This before they will let you in. Basically the whole place is overrun with one drunk obnoxious group after another. Don't plan on enjoying any peaceful sleep when you're between the loudspeakers from the rap... More

This was our 4th trip to Chimney Rock... we always go up for a weekend for cabin camping and a float down the river. The cabins are well designed and comfortable for 6 people! They are also set away from the other campers and we have never had any problems with fellow cabin campers. The owners are always very accommodating... More

We stayed at this campground from Friday-Sunday. We stayed in the "Family section". There were 100's of drunk college kids every where. They used profanity and did not seem to be shy about their bodies. There is only one bath house with 2 showers for women and 2 for men. There were 2 toliets and 1 sink in each bathroom.... More

I am sorry you chose the busiest weekend of the summer. Lite up the Bluff concert in Bluffton and Nordic Fest in Decorah, We offer Free shuttle to the Bluffton Concert on both Friday and Saturday nights and work pretty much 24/7 those 4 or 5 days. Rest assured I DO NOT DO COLLEGE EVENTS AFTER MAY 15th so the... More
