This is a marriott? I wish I had read the reviews before I went. 1st the room dirty, floors had not been swept or vacuumed. The so called kitchen provide 2 packages of salt and a roll of paper towel. The mirrors in bathroom and dressing areas looked like a child had smeared soap all over them. They advertise WiFi we never were able to login, called front desk she told us to call the tech department, REALLY. Crystal could have cared less at the front desk. They also advertise breakfast, because of covid they offer a grab and go bag which is fine, however when I got my bag I received a bottle of water and a granola bar, again REALLY. The staff are very polite yet very unconcerned. I can't recommend this place for anything, please look elsewhere.

I booked this on the Marriott website and didn’t check the reviews since I trust the Marriott brand. I no longer trust the brand. This was the WORST place I’ve ever stayed. Dirty, did not feel safe, reeked of pot coming in through the vents from the place next door. Partying and loud music going on until 4:30 a.m. Sketchy cars coming and going dropping and picking people up all night. It looks like a run down apartment complex. Stay away and never blindly trust the Marriott name. Marriott should be ashamed to put their name on this place.

I was so disappointed in my stay at this Residence Inn location. This was the first time visiting a Residence Inn and my stay was horrible. I was with a 3 family group and all of us had to switch rooms for various reasons. Rooms not clean, smelled like cigarette smoke, fixtures broken, no remote controls and etc. Not to mention that our sleep comfort was disrupted all night by college students staying at the property to have parties. I really so disappointed and tired the next morning. The only upside from my stay is that the GM did take care of our stay because of our mishaps.

Stayed for one night on a cross country trip. It was beyond disgusting. Clogged toilet with no one available to fix. We sanitized the place as best we could and waited for morning to grab coffee and flee. In the morning, went to the dark, dirty and empty breakfast room to get coffee. Nothing. Asked the maskless and SHOELESS woman at reception where the complimentary coffee was. “No one made any today,” she said with an indifferent shrug. When asked if she knew a place nearby to get coffee, the response was “No. I’m not from around here”. Speechless. This place should be shut down.

This property is not being maintained and it looks like a cheap, rundown apartment complex on the outside. When we checked in, there was a bag of trash near the entrance to our room and litter in the parking lot. The litter was never picked up. There were weeds growing in the "landscaping" throughout the property, even at the front entrance. A vehicle had torn off part of the roof over the entrance area and this was not repaired. In our room, there was a cleaning cloth on the bathroom shelf, huge dust bunnies behind the nightstand and hairs (not ours) on the bathroom floor. We should have left. But we decided to stay, I got out my sanitizing wipes and disinfected the surfaces. Pictures are attached of some of the issues listed here. Other reviewers have mentioned very similar issues and have gotten a lip service answer from the manager. I can't imagine how regional or other upper level managers don't know of the condition of this property, since the on-site manager is not making any changes.

I don’t know how this property maintains an affiliation with Marriott. I am a Bonvoy Platinum Member who travels extensively, and this hotel is certainly NOT up to Marriott standards for cleanliness nor upkeep. The furniture was ragged and soiled, but more concerning during a pandemic were the filthy surface tops which I wiped down with Clorox wipes that were ultimately covered in dust. I hardly slept all night because suspicious cars with “sketchy” young men cruised the parking lot regularly. If I hadn’t arrived too late to make alternative arrangements, I would have left. I can’t advise strongly enough against staying at this location.

I stay in a Marriott in excess of 150 nights a year and am Ambassador level. This includes plenty of stays at other Residence Inn. I have always been pleased with Marriott and NEVER compelled to leave a negative review—-until now. I called 1 week in advance to note that I was traveling with dogs and requested a ground floor room. They were very pleasant on the phone and said no problem. I checked in on the App the day prior and then arrived at 9pm. No notes on the reservation about dogs, no request noted for first floor and of course we had a second floor room. They desk staff said they were full and could not change it. The check in woman was pleasant and did not know why the requests were not noted but also did nothing to remedy the failures and did not really apologize. We got to the room and the keys did not work so my family and dogs had to stand there while I drove back to the main building to get the keys programmed again. Got back to the room to find no linens for the convertible sofa bed. Now I reserved for 4 people and checked in in advance. I also have extra towels on my profile. All the other Marriotts always have extra towels in the room. I had to drive back to the main building again to collect towels (only 3 in the room) and linens. We had been on the road for 10 hours and just wanted to check in and go to bed. This property is dirty and furniture is stained. It is not well maintained. Honesty this is not up to Marriott standards and this is a failure of local management. A change is needed. You read all the reviews below mine with complaints and apologies and promises to work on issues to remedy them but it is lip service. They will not change a thing. Business as usual at a property that should not wear a Marriott badge. The local management honestly does not care even for people who are very brand loyal and spend a lot of money with Marriott. I am only reading these bad reviews now because I have had such good luck with Marriotts over the years, I never think to check. You always know you are going to get excellent Marriott hospitality and facilities—not true here. Find somewhere else to stay.

New management is working hard to bring this property up to standard from the previous owner. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They were quick to address a few issues with my room. This was a great location for walking/biking to downtown along the riverfront. Quiet location. Will definitely stay again when I'm back in South Bend!

I'm sure this hotel has a certain market that it caters to, and it probably caters to that market very well, but I would make me strong argument that "business traveler" is not its intended target market. I had a choice between another newer Marriott property downtown and this one - I chose this one because the Residence Inn typically is a better value overall. By the end of my stay, I wish I had chosen the newer property. First impressions are lasting - first room I was assigned was dirty and missing a TV. The front desk laughed about miscommunication with their housekeeping staff, so I dismissed the incident as such. My reassigned room was directly upstairs from the original - clean, but it looked and smelled of an aging property. Previous experience with properties that have this original RI layout tells me that there are nice, spacious rooms available with vaulted ceilings and lofts. I realize that these are two bedroom rooms and I was traveling solo, but as a higher level Bonvoy member, I have been upgraded into a two bedroom suite in the past. The empty parking lot made me curious that maybe a larger group was anticipated my second night. That was not the case, however - mine was the only vehicle near my eight-unit building both nights. Other than the principal, this is a moot point. Another sign of age was what I presume to be the furnace that was locked away in the main closet area. I did not get a good night's sleep either night because whenever the furnace kicked in, I was startled awake by the sound of a freight train. I typically am a very heavy sleeper so if something wakes me - especially repeatedly - it says something about the noise level. For me, the last straw was my check out experience. I checked out mid-morning and stopped to fill my coffee cup for the road. I was the only person in the lobby at that time. Rather than standing at the desk and making sure I did not have any issues or concerns, the desk agent (who clearly saw me as she walked back to the desk from whatever she was doing) sat down in the office and grabbed her phone. I walked up and watched her skilled fingers texting away for a good 30 seconds - even made a few noises at the desk, but her attention stayed on her phone. I finally said that I did not want to interrupt her and told her my room number, then walked out before she could give whatever apology she felt may have been appropriate. Even taking the age of the property into consideration, this is a far cry from what I would expect from a Marriott property. Lots of room for improvement! I will stick with my gut and check out the newer property downtown next time I am in South Bend.

The sleeping portion of the room was spacious and clean and the rates are very reasonable. That said there are some issues here that need to be addressed. This is an original format RI with 8 house buildings surrounding a main lobby building. The grounds were very unkempt, leaves were everywhere to include the door wells of the first floor apartments. External maintenance seems delayed or deferred. While the living area of our apartment was as described, the kitchen area was dirty and I would not have used it- there was a film on the glasswear and several bugs (not roaches) in the unswept corners. Service was polite. I would stay here overnight as we did but would think twice about a longer term situation.
