Rensselaer is my hometown and this is such lovely place to stay when returning. Our most recent visit was a few weeks ago and the quality was as top notch as ever. Wonderful bedroom, great bathroom, delicious breakfast, gracious hosts. And interesting conversation at the breakfast table to boot.

Sally and Fred are gracious hosts. They knew our names when we arrived and we had a nice conversation and tour upon our arrival. We pre-ordered the cheese tray which was very welcome to these hungry travelers. Breakfast was incredibly delicious: yogurt with bananas and pecans; mountaintop bacon; orange french toast. Sally is especially sensitive to those with allergies/special food... More

Found a great house with superior rooms and a great breakfast. This is a nice place for a romantic getaway. We stayed in the rose room. We ate at the city pub restaurant in town and enjoyed the prime rib and perch.

The White House is every bit as spiffy on the inside as it is outside. We entered the former Kannal mansion and stepped back to the glory days of the late 1890s. It is a huge house with an unusually well laid-out floor plan. Sally greeted us at the door and made us feel welcome immediately. We selected the Cameo... More

Was in town for what was supposed to be only one night, but breakdowns turned it into two nights. Sally took us in without reservations at the last minute and made us all feel right at home. This is a stunningly beautiful old home filled with antiques and surprisingly, each bedroom has it's own bathroom. Breakfast was elegant (especially the... More

I grew up in Rensselaer. When my family and I travel back home, we try to stay at the White House. I remember walking around Rensselaer as a teen and admiring this mansion and the nearby homes in this historic part of town. The owners are absolutely lovely and their breakfasts are immense and incredible! They - and the previous... More

We arrived at this charming location jet lagged and exhausted from the long drive on the Interstate from O'Hare Airport and left 24 hours later completely rejuvenated and relaxed and ready for the next part of our journey through the beautiful state of Indiana. We were treated to a warm welcome and beautiful comfortable surroundings of the Rose Garden Room... More

We stopped over in Rensselaer on the way home from Brown County, Indiana and we were glad we did. The White House on Park Avenue is a beautiful, historic home with devoted owners. They graciously allowed us to check in early because our room was ready, and they were really helpful with directions and suggestions about where to eat in... More

We are not Chicagoans, but after staying here and seeing how close we were to Chicago, anyone from there will not regret the trip. We were traveling from Dayton to Chicago when we found this wonderful place. The town is just a short distance off of I-65, but miles from the fast-paced life. Several nice shops and local restaurants add... More
