What a wonderful surprise…. After driving 13 hrs and then taking a winding scenic back road we find a hamlet right out of history. The weathered buildings that hold a vast array of curiosities and history. The rooms were clean and comfortable, no TV, no phone or clock. Just quiet and the valley's own beauty. The Story Inn prepared a great... more

Heard great and interesting things about the Story Inn. Went there over the 4th, one night, which was absolutely enough. Musty, old, greeted with less than a smile from the hostess for the restaurant. Heard the food was good, mine was horrible, got the vegetarian meal, looked like Gerber baby food. What a nightmare. I agree with other commenters, the... more

I was really looking forward to staying overnight at the Story Inn, so I booked for the last night of our trip, because I wanted to save what I thought would be the best night for last. Sadly, we were very disappointed. The best part of the Story Inn is the drive there, which is about 10 miles off the... more

My wife and I had traveled for so long and we were so tired that by the time we got to Story we were famished. We read that this place was charming, but it really is kind of a dump. Loud noisy motocycle gangs hang out at an outside bar and the "dining" inside is well below par. A very... more

I posted the "Vastly Overrated" review above...and I stand by what I posted at the time. However, I gave Story another chance a few years after my initial review (my first trip to Story took place a while before I posted my review). As I understand it, there had been some management changes and changes in the kitchen, and I... more

The Inn at Story is the Village of Story, a complete, carefully preserved mid-nineteenth-century settlement that never quite caught up with either the 20th or 21st century. What a great place to escape cell phones, televised entertainment, and traffic noise. Whether you hike, ride horses, bicycle, nap, or mingle with artists, Story is your kind of place. Most inn sleeping rooms... more

While standing in a lost valley near the ghost town of Elkinsville, Indiana, in the Hoosier National Forest, I exclaimed to my husband, "I feel like I"ve found Shangri-La." With the sun setting behind dark hills, and the vibrant spring greens fading under purple skies, you could easily see why this region attracted so many impressionist artists, striving to capture... more

Five of us planned our visit to Story aftering reading about the Blue Lady "ghost". We decided what better time than in Nov. with the winter chill and early darkness. The inn itself was unique but the rooms were small, furniture needed updating or replacement, and it could have been cleaner (dust all over, yuck!). And don't even get us... more

My wife and I went to Nashville after seeing an article in Indianapolis Monthly about the Story Inn! After seeing a pervious post about it being overrated, I had to chime in myself...with a little validation if you will. The possibilities are endless, but at the end of the day, they need to find their way. It is quaint and... more
