We chose The Rock as we had been there many times over the years. It was a special occasion, but we felt it wasn't very friendly and the food which was of good quality was over priced and the portions were meagre. So overall probably won't go back.

We visited this pub on Saturday afternoon and sat with our dog in the wonderful garden. After seeing a cheese board being served my husband couldn't resist. The male member of staff taking his order replied "it is a proper cheese board" !! Yes my husband may have looked a little disheveled and sweaty we stopped here after walking 11... More

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry that the comment made by the member of staff about the cheese board was misinterpreted and made you feel a little unwelcome. We have many walkers visiting us everyday so your appearance would never cause an issue. With regards to the beer – we choose not to use ‘sparklers’ on... More

What a tragedy that my wife, parents and I were only able to stay one night at this characterful country inn. A couple of real ales were enjoyed prior to our evening meal. Highlights for our party included a large bowl of delicious mussels, local duck, scallops and plaice with samphire. All were delightfully presented, as was the full English... More

We went to the Rock for a Saturday lunch. The weather was beautiful so we sat in the pub garden opposite the pub itself. Beautiful quiet spot. The steaks were really good, as were the prawns. A wonderful unspoilt stop for a tasty lunch

Went for Dinner while staying in Devon with friends. Loved the location and ambiance. The food was delicious. Rare Steaks were just right . Service was friendly and attentive. Good wine list . Really enjoyed our visit. Surprised at the value for money too. Have eaten in restaurants which serve just pub grub and paid much more. Would like to... More

We had not been to eat at the Rock for quite a while. The last time under different owners was mediocre so it was not again considered. With a revamp and new owners we thought it worth another try. Certainly the look and feel of the place was better and everything looked like we were going to have a pleasant... More

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are disappointed to hear that you didn’t enjoy your dinner with us recently. Firstly I should state that the Inn has not changed hands - the same family have run the Inn for over 30 years so we are glad to hear that our continuing efforts to upkeep business has a positive... We treated ourselves to a short break to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and, wanting to combine some walking with a comfy place to lay our heads, knew that a return visit to the Rock would fit the bill. Oliver even rejigged his bookings so that we could have the same room as previously for our full stay - Sheila's... More

This is the second time we have been here to eat. Both times we have been very impressed with the quality of the food and friendliness of the service. The inn is a lovely traditional English coaching inn with a rabbit warren different rooms. I think most have an open fire... but it was such a sunny day when we... More

We have recently returned for a few nights and were not disappointed. The bedroom was lovely, with a very comfortable bed and the bathroom had a free-standing bath and separate shower, all immaculate. The breakfasts were among the best we have had anywhere, evening meals likewise. However, the staff really make this Inn what it is - friendly, helpful and... More

I visit the Rock Inn at least twice a year. The basic rooms are small but comfortable and very clean - and great value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is great - they now offer baked beans and black pudding which was missing from their menu in previous years: my husband was delighted! The food in... More
