I was lucky enough to have a week at The Rock courtesy of my parents. The room was lovely; clean and bright with big fluffy towels changed daily. Food was superb, plenty to choose from and a good wine list too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is awesome!! I can't recommend this highly enough and will definitely be... More

We were only able to stay one night but made the most of it arriving on a pleasant sunny day. We sat in the garden for a coffee before going for a walk up Haytor, recommended by the staff. This inn is in the best location for absorbing the atmosphere of Dartmoor. Glorious in the sunshine but perhaps also good... More

We stayed in room on top floor, in the roof really. Room was comfortable and clean and spacious bathroom. One drawback was roof beams across both rooms, so inevitable head banging! The breakfast was fabulous, really fresh food and great service. We had dinner 3 nights in the hotel and it was SUPERB! Recommend the lamb. Old fashioned place with... More

Thank you for your review and we are glad you enjoyed staying with us recently. A little care is needed with the beams when staying at the 'Top of the Inn' but I think you would agree it is worth it for the charm and character of the rooms. It was also nice to read your comments regarding the evening... More

We spent a cpuple of days in Springfield Cottage in nearby Old Liverton and the Rock was recommended as a place to enljoy a great meal.... we were not disappointed. The meal chosen by our group included fish steak and lamb all of which were enjoyed by our party. There was a good choice of wines and we thoroughly enjoyed... More

We ate here on a Friday night and the restaurant was very busy with a nice friendly atmosphere. The food and service were commensurate with the surroundings. We had a drink first in the pleasant garden opposite and were very pleased with both the food and service. Would definitely recommend.

We chose The Rock as we had been there many times over the years. It was a special occasion, but we felt it wasn't very friendly and the food which was of good quality was over priced and the portions were meagre. So overall probably won't go back.

We visited this pub on Saturday afternoon and sat with our dog in the wonderful garden. After seeing a cheese board being served my husband couldn't resist. The male member of staff taking his order replied "it is a proper cheese board" !! Yes my husband may have looked a little disheveled and sweaty we stopped here after walking 11... More

Thank you for your review and feedback. We are sorry that the comment made by the member of staff about the cheese board was misinterpreted and made you feel a little unwelcome. We have many walkers visiting us everyday so your appearance would never cause an issue. With regards to the beer – we choose not to use ‘sparklers’ on... More

What a tragedy that my wife, parents and I were only able to stay one night at this characterful country inn. A couple of real ales were enjoyed prior to our evening meal. Highlights for our party included a large bowl of delicious mussels, local duck, scallops and plaice with samphire. All were delightfully presented, as was the full English... More

We went to the Rock for a Saturday lunch. The weather was beautiful so we sat in the pub garden opposite the pub itself. Beautiful quiet spot. The steaks were really good, as were the prawns. A wonderful unspoilt stop for a tasty lunch

Went for Dinner while staying in Devon with friends. Loved the location and ambiance. The food was delicious. Rare Steaks were just right . Service was friendly and attentive. Good wine list . Really enjoyed our visit. Surprised at the value for money too. Have eaten in restaurants which serve just pub grub and paid much more. Would like to... More
