We ended up staying at the Starved Rock Inn, because the Starved Rock Lodge (located inside the park) was not available for the two days we wanted to stay. The Inn is OK. The rooms are basic motel rooms with sort of a rustic decor. The main complaint is that it was still somewhat pricey ($135.00 for two nights), and the room was not cleaned on the second day. I asked at the gift shop, which is also the registration desk, why the room was not cleaned. They replied that if the housekeeper thinks that you are in the room, they will not clean it. The strange thing is that the housekeeper watched us leave the room fior the day. So, that excuse didn't make sense. For that much money, you'd at least expect fresh towels for the second day and to get your bed made. Stay at the Lodge if you can swing it.
