We were touring through the English countryside when we first stooped at this pub for a quick coffee ...The hospitality was terrific and as we were planning to go else where we decided to come back another day we made a dinner reservation and when we arrived it felt like and were treated like a long lost relative..The meals were... We found this amazing pub purely by chance. From the welcome on our arrival to the food ( you must try one of the pies ) I could not find fault. Tried 2 different bitters, both well kept and the glasses had also been renervated. Some people are born to be involved in this trade and the owner of this... More

Both food and service fantastic with the added bonus that if you walk just a few minutes down the road admiring how the other half live then you find yourself in an awesome setting walking over the River Test to Cow Common in Chilbolten.

Located in the middle of nowhere but what a great pub! Great friendly service, good menu, great food and very reasonable too. Nice beer garden, quiet location so perfect for a relaxed pub experience! Highly recommended!

We found this inn by accident and were lucky to do so. In a village of thatched roof homes that only added to our vision of the English countryside. Founded in 1611 and, fortunately, doesn't appear to have changed much. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, good food and very helpful and friendly hosts. I only wish we could have found more... More

A wonderful experience, A real gem of an establishment. From the moment you arrive to the second you leave you will be looked after by attentive people who want you to enjoy your time with them. Brillant, We will be back thank you for looking after my son and I.

We stayed for a week in mid-May. Accommodations clean & cozy -- drinks & food excellent... The Inn was established in 1611 (so no en-suite facilities) but it has retained its old world charm, the staff is friendly & go out of their way to make you feel like old friends. This wasn't our first stay and...and it won't be... More

I cannot remember the last time that I stayed overnight without en suite facilities. Despite our misgivings, the Tripadvisor reports encouraged us and to good effect. The pub is 17th century and you feel has not had any major changes since. The room was large and bare but clean and the bed comfortable. While we shared toilet and bathroom, this... More

Having used the White. Lion many times for food and our fishing trips to the Test, we decided to try there for accommodation.. What a brilliant decision. Great food as always, honest comfortable clean rooms and above all very congenial and obliging landlord. Very understanding and compassionate when we received bad news during our second night, necessitating a short notice... More

We visited with well over 20 friends after a classic MG car run and they certainly looked after us as most of us had pre-booked a meal. Those that had not pre-booked were also quickly served. All the meals were freshly cooked and nicely presented. Generous portions proved a little difficult for some but all were happy with the quality... More
