If the Write Inn were priced like a bargain hotel, I'd give it an ok rating, but for almost $200/night I expected something nicer than a highway Motel 6 quality. The Carlton Inn nearby was slightly less expensive and was very stylish and had lovely boutique hotel features. I expected something of the same at the Write Inn and was... More

Historic hotel in good location for access to Frank Lloyd Wright homes/designs, Hemingway museum, and the "EL" (about 2 blocks S). Staff was friendly. A bit pricey, and has some issues that might be expected with an older property. Our room had no working air conditioning (that we could control anyway). Fortunately it was not oppressively hot, and we could... More

We were looking for an inexpensive hotel in a safe neighborhood, free parking and close to the train. We found it @ The Write Inn. The room was clean, but small (keep in mind you get what you pay for) the staff was AWESOME they couldn't have been more helpful - tip for some of the people who had a... More

This place is the pits. It could be an excellent boutique hotel if the management and staff gave a damn about the guests, but they don't. They're one of two hotels in all of Oak Park so they figure they can charge $200 a night and treat their guests like cattle. Yes, I said cattle, not chattel, but I suppose... More

My work accidentally put me up here for a business trip. I walked in and could not believe that a hotel room could look and smell like this. Its dusty, literally a thick layer of dust all over everything but the bed in places that they clearly have never cleaned. There is a musty moldy smell and hair all over... More

We came into Oak Park for the Frank Lloyd Wright tours. The Write Inn was within walking distance to them and also the neighborhood village with all the bars and restaurants. This is an older hotel, but for us that added to the charm. We had the same "all or nothing" issues with the climate controls that others reported. The... More

The Write Inn has its charms, large room with kitchenettes and antique furniture but it is pricey for compared to more modern, newer hotels. One of its advantages is location for anyone interested in Hemingway and or Frank Lloyd Wright. It also has an excellent French-style bistro. When we were there this time they were doing a lot of upgrades.

Spent over $200 for a one-night stay in a tiny, dingy room. Often there was nobody at the front desk, even with we used the "ring bell for service." Sometimes we waited several minutes for someone to show up. There is a free parking area but it's over 2 blocks away. The bed was jammed into an alcove enclosed on... More

Location was great. Hotel needs more than updating. Everything is old Room was comfortable except for air conditioning. Bed was comfortable. Our room really needed updating except for modern TV, fridge and microwave.Carpets were old and soiled. Bathroom was old, and needs updating. Plaster and paint were peeling from walls. Water pressure and temperature control in shower was poor. There... More
