Location convenient to restaurants and shopping in oak park and easy drive to downtown. Rooms could stand some updating including new mattresses but it was nice to have a refrigerator and microwave. Price quite reasonable. Note that the attached Hemingway's bistro is not run by hotel. It is very good but it would be nice if the hotel could offer... More

I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. It has a lot of potential as a former writers boarding house. It is a fantastic location in Oak Park. But it has the charm of a 1920's boarding house and the decor of an uninspired 1950's re-do. It needs considerable TLC. The parking is 3-4 blocks away. Our room... More

I was deeply grateful that management allowed me to bring my two pets. I thought the staff was well educated and courteous and some of the friendliest staff you could meet. Rooms were clean and I really loved the fact that there were REAL windows you could open to let in some of the breeze. Rooms were run down and... More

This is a bit of an odd place. The location is great and probably explains a higher price than you might pay for this type of accommodations. The building is a bit run down and looks more like a hostel than a hotel. The room we had was clean, but strange. The room looked as if it used to be... More

The hotel does need some remodeling. Beds are comfy, rooms clean and spacious, parkig free. Not a bad choice for a brief business trip. It could really perform much better but I guess it's quite costly to remodel sich a wide building.

When we travel we always like to stay 'locally' ~ instead of at a 'chain' hotel. The Write Inn fit that bill perfectly. It is not high-tech nor fancy; however, we found it to be clean, comfortable, spacious and within walking/biking distance of everything Oak Park has to offer. The best surprise was the Hemingway Bistro located off the Inn's... More

We were initially placed in the smallest double room we've ever seen - the double bed was rammed up against the wall and we could hardly fit our suitcases around it! It was dark and dingy and smelt bad! We asked to be moved and were told we would have to pay extra to be upgraded to a bigger room... More

Very handy for the EL,( we were able to get downtown in about twentyfive min). Helpful staff too. Having a good restaurant ( The Bistro attached to the hotel ) is also very convenient and the food is good. The room was huge, clean. A light fixture in the bathroom was not working, but they fixed it as soon as... More

Seriously THE worst I have ever stayed in. The matress was ancient, the flimsy pillows smelled gross, the decor so old that "quaint" and "charming" cannot apply. The lighting is SO bad I could hardly see to put on my makeup. IT'S JUST REALLY BAD! The elevator works (sometimes)....and the overall feel of the place is just not a place... More
