We stayed at the DeSoto House last weekend on a Friday and Saturday evening. Rooms were clean and beds are comfortable. I will agree with other reviewers that their "rack" room rate of $200 per night is a little steep, but it also comes with the convenience of attached covered (first three floors) parking. Given the one way street out... More

This is a very attractive, historic, old (but nicely updated and remodeled on the inside) hotel literally in the middle of downtown main street Galena. It is the only hotel actually downtown. The location could not be better, and the covered parking is a definite plus due to the normally crowded streets and limited parking of Galena. It is a... More

Disappointed. Terrible dinner in restaurant, eerie feeling as we were the only diners. Decor in lobby was beautiful and historic, rooms had fake antiques , linseed wood stuff. Old linens, bedspreads were yucky, threw in closet and we figured most previous had as well, so who knows whAt was on it. Most nice places at least cover the bed with... More

Downtown Galena is a great place with something for everyone. My wife and I loved our Labor Day weekend that just concluded. Unfortunately, the only hotel is the DeSoto. A nice hotel, a lot of history. Clean. Great location. But $200+ a nite ?? No frig for leftovers from all the great restaurants? That's 4-star pricing from the Magnificent Mile.... More

I stayed at the Desoto with my girlfriend for a night away from the husbands and kids. It is a beautiful hotel, the breakfast in the morning was good and plentiful, the staff was very nice. It is a great location in Galena, with a parking garage, so no street parking. I glad I stayed there once, but I did... More

Loved the history here! The hotel is decorated to look old-fashioned but is clean and has enough modern touches to make for a nice stay. Our room did slope a bit to the corner but that just felt like part of the charm. We overlooked Main Street but were not bothered at all by noise from the street, even on... More

Great place. Oozing with history, three restaurants in the building, free parking and right in the middle of everything. The parking garage is a tight squeeze, but unless you're rolling in an old Lincoln Continental, there should be enough room for you. Rooms are nice, good showers and comfortable beds. Pretty quiet. We had the breakfast buffet before we left.... More

For the price, the room could have been more modern and have greater amenities, e.g. frig, double sink bathroom, etc.. Maid service could have been more attentive. Restaurant food was good, but service was extremely slow.

Unfortunately about ten minutes out from the hotel we had a serious vehicle accident that totaled our car and sent us to the emergency room. Upon arrival and realization of our situation, the staff could not have been more helpful or caring. Diane at the front desk did all she could to help us manage through a difficult time. Mike,... Second time we've stayed at the Desoto. Beautiful building, unbeatable location, free covered parking which in Galena is a huge plus all by itself. We got there a few hours before check-in, and they let us park the motorcycle in the garage right away, and even held our helmets and jackets in the office while we looked around until check-in...
