A friend referred me to The Homestead - indicated they stayed regularly when they were visiting Northwestern. I liked it's proximity to the CTA to get to Chicago and Loyola - where most of our activities were planned. I decided to give it a try; I was told it was intimate and the staff was exceptional. We arrived midday and... More

I'm not a hotel snob but this place should be condemned. They are happy to tell you that it was built in 1927 and I believe it after witnessing what appear to be the same paint and furnishings that adorned the original hotel. And I'm not talking about well preserved antiques. Cracked paint and calk. Sink tub and toilet soiled... More

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience on Tripadvisor. You are correct in your assessment of the pride we feel to hold status as a registered historic property; we believe this is a notable accomplishment, and one that brings great honor to our brand and community. However, we certainly understand that this style of hotel doesn’t appeal to... More

Stayed in one of their suits for a month during a business trip to Evanston during a cold February. The place was clean and the housekeeping was regular. The place was well furnished too. The wardrobes were big enough to accommodate all my clothes and accessories I had brought with me for the planned travel. The sofa and bed were... More

A pleasant surprise given I prefer a starwood property when traveling. Especially business travel. The room was huge. Sort of a one bedroom. The furnishings were dated. The restaurant was good but the breakfast Buffett was on the lame side. Very close to everything.

On the plus side, this hotel was a few minutes walk to campus. It was also toasty warm and homey. (It was so toasty that I had to open the window at night to sleep.) You could really hear every sound from the other rooms (plumbing, talking, etc)--bring your ear plugs. I would have liked to make a cup of... More

We were pleasantly surprised at how lovely this hotel was! The rooms were huge with a separate drawing room and kitchenette. We had booked a one bedroom suite and found out that they also have two bedroom suites which you rarely find online. Your best bet is to book a room directly with the hotel. The rooms were appropriately decorated... More

In Chicago for a business trip and picked this hotel for it's location. Built in 1928 the rooms have of course been updated but it feels like stepping back in time to 1940's type of room. Very quaint and vintage. If you are looking for something unique than the run of the mill hotel stay here. Better than average breakfast.

Great family run hotel on quiet residential street next to Northwestern University and all downtown Evanston has to offer. Enjoyed the free breakfast, wifi and parking. Loved being able to walk a block or two down to the beach, restaurants, and shopping. Great place to stay when visiting your NU student!

When we wanted to stay longer in Chicago, and we were tired of being treated horribly by the GM of another local hotel, we stayed at the Homestead. We all wished we had stayed our entire time here. The hotel is beautiful and comfortable, and the entire staff, not just a person or two, realize they are tbere for the... More
