My husband, I and our two foreign exchange students stayed at the Homestead in Evanston, IL. What an amazing property, location and staff! The hotel is close to everything, shopping, restaurants, theater and steps away to catch the train and head downtown Chicago! The property offers an old world cozy feel as you walk in and are greeted by friendly... More

Granted, I don't have people constantly in and out -- but I also don't have a housekeeping staff. The carpets were black along the wall, tiles were broken and mismatched, and -- worst -- the window no longer fit in the frame and cracked glass had been repaired with packing tape, which was itself so old that it was flaking... I was called to a meeting in Evanston, IL and spent all of 24 hours there. I did not spend much time in my room except to sleep. The price was right, the location seemed just fine, the tv set was a left-over from the 70's, but it worked. This is not a fancy place, and no doubt it has... More

I stayed here for a week over the summer. Good value for money. My room was charming but a little worn - that added to the character. It is an older building and the elevator is slow but acceptable. It is homey and charming. It is within walking distance to many eateries and shops and of course, the university and... More

Recently stayed a weekend at the Homestead, and came away quite contented. As others have mentioned, the place is old, and some of the details such as sink handles, doorknobs etc. show it. To my way of thinking, that is an advantage. Everything worked, and the historic feel of the surroundings made it all the more cozy. I don't care... More

I have had the good fortune of staying at The Homestead for over a month now. I am so impressed by the place, by every detail, and most of all by the kind and warm nature of everyone who works here. It is so important to experience that kind of attention from hotel staff; it makes being on one's own... More

Step on to the wonderful porch and you realize there is something different here that you won't find at chains like Hilton - it feels like a special home away from home. The staff is so very kind and courteous, the rooms are delightful, and the location is a wonderful street just next to everything you need for a perfect... More

We booked this hotel for the location as we were going to the U of M versus Northwestern football game. It was also the Chicago Marathon weekend so hotels were at a premium. The location was fabulous, but the hotel room left a lot to be desired. I truly do not think they have made one improvement since it was... More

I travel a lot for business, both in the U.S. and abroad, and have stayed in more than my share of short-term residences. So I can say without question that the Homestead Hotel is one of the best places I've ever stayed. My one-bedroom apartment was comfortable, homey and quiet. But what impressed me most about the Homestead is its... More

I was in town visiting Northwestern University (5 minute walk from the hotel), and generally enjoyed my stay in a two-bedroom suite with a friend, also visiting NU. The hotel staff was very nice, and our suite was quite roomy (with a living room and kitchen). Unfortunately, the two bedrooms were very different - one had a large bathroom with... More
