Visited a few times with friends. The pulled pork sandwich is nice. We were sat with the family in the lounge area at the back. There is way too much swearing to be heard coming from the front bar. Every time I have been in with my friends it is the same. I would not recommend taking the mother/mother in... More

Had been on my list for a while to try this one. Finally got there last Thursday.. The pub itself was quiet that afternoon, so had no trouble being seated in a charming room. Basic menu, but what we had was excellent. Little un had the childs portion of sausage (CHUNKY)chips and peas. Other half was being adventurous again and... More

We recently visited this pub and I must say that the food is great.. However please do watch the locals, they thought it would be funny to lace my husbands drinks and the bar staff were quiet happy to go along with it !! ( who I must say were very young) absolutely ruined our weekend away and we had... More

Food was absolutely gorgeous. We had Turkey and Cranberry pie with wedges, carrots and green beans. It was lovely and plenty of it. Pudding was white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake which was to die for. Our waiter was Jack and can I say what a lovely polite lad. Will definitely come again when having a break away.

I've eaten at this pub on quite a number of occasions in the past and each time it's been 'pretty good' until last Saturday and Sunday. We were doing our usual thing of pub-crawling by boat up the Ashby Canal and had intended to moor on Saturday night at Shackerstone as I fancied the fish and chips at the Rising... More

Great meal at a realistic price wasn't sure what to expect as it had recently changed hands but was very surprised helpful staff food great cooked to order, was surprised you can take a walk along the canal and they even have camp site and a free play area for children and outside dining if that's your thing! well worth... Very nice place for genuinely good food and ale. Not having had a burger for a long time (very fussy about mince) but the Great Dane Burger appealed to me and how glad I was that I did - it was most definitely the best burger I have ever had - absolutely delicious, so tasty and the vegetables where first... Initially thought this might be 'okay place' but monosyllabic barmaid swiftly redirected first impressions. Cooks are obviously ill, or nil trained and suspect they are family teens perhaps NVQ truants! Deep frying mushrooms is one thing, to be avoided, but to try this in what must have been lukewarm fat can only prompt such review as this - suspect it... More

Called on the off chance for a light lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Although quiet (apparently just had a recent change of ownership) the staff were friendly, the surroundings pleasing and the food amazing. The portions were more than substancial, tastily cooked and beautifully presented. We will definitely be going again to try more of the chefs dishes
