...lies a former boatshed, that houses the SYHA Loch Ossian hostel. The area is stunning, captivating, whatever else you would want ot use to describe an area unseen anywhere else. Even though located only about 15 miles away from "civilization" you easily feel like in the middle of nowhere. While the website and SYHA manual claim that the hostel could... More

We had a very nice stay at Loch Ossian for two nights. Jan, the manager of the hostel, welcomed us on our arrival and showed us the hostel. The dormitories and the bathrooms are simple, but very tidy and clean. Every time you leave the building you are astonished by the dramatic surroundings with Loch Ossian and various "hills". It's... This was my first stay here. I had read so much about this hostel for so long. I was firstly attracted by the remoteness of it and secondly by the wildlife. What better time to visit, in the depths of a Scottish winter......... I would firstly like to say Jan could not have been a better hostess. Always asking if... More

Another stunning trip to Ossian 15th to 19th Nov. Whilst connected by a main train line once you are walking down to the remote eco hostel (note: no showers, outdoor compost toilets, self catering) you are really in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the 7 Munros, Loch Ossian itself and miles of unspoilt landscape. The SYHA staff here (Katrina... More

A remote hide-away in the middle of nowhere. I first visited this hostel over 15 years ago (and spent much of that time running around barefoot and playing with the deer) it is, and continues to be one of my top ten destinations. Either in a family group or otherwise. I cannot put into words the open freedom of the... More

If you like remote unspoiled beauty, then this could be for you. Great setting by a picture perfect loch. There are several achievable hills around plus a lovely walk around the loch itself. Come prepared though, because it's inaccessible by road, the nearest shop is probably Fort William by train, so take plenty of provisions. The nearby Carrour station restaurant,... More

I came here by myself after having cycled from Scarborough to Bridge of Orchy, and my stay at Loch Ossian was certainly a most delightful notch to add onto my journey. Like many places in Scotland, Loch Ossian is truly like nowhere else in the world that I've been to before. I got off the train at Corrour just as... More

We came as a group of explorers on a long hike, camping nearby. The manageress was lovely, and even though we weren't staying in the hostel, let us use her toilets and water, as well as cleaning out a shed for us to play cards and keep our bags in. She really went out of her way for us, and... More

I visited Loch Ossian with a bunch of girlfriends. We go away for a weekend once every year and decided this year to visit Loch Ossian. Loch Ossian was used as a location in the film Trainspotting and is near Fort William. There is a lovely restaurant at the Train Station which I thought weird as it's in the middle... More

Loch Ossian is beautiful and easy to get to from the train at Corrour. We have been to the hostel before when walking in this area. It is advertised by SYHA as a Rustic Hostel so be prepared - there are no showers and the toilets are outside. Importantly if you arrive back from a wet walk the drying facilities... More
