It was fine, cheaper then hotels right in downtown. Of course, it's Chicago, none of the hotels are cheap. Little janky, but good enough to sleep in for sure. The shuttle took us right downtown, and the driver was great (John Brown). He took us wherever we wanted to go, was very friendly, and he knew what he was doing.

Thanks for you review of our "janky" hotel! We will pass the compliment along to JB. We're getting less and less janky, as our renovations are nearing completion. We hope you'll come again. More

This hotel is run down. Almost all of it has peeling paint, scratches, falling plaster, etc. I stayed here last weekend to attend an event in the conference center. This was August 2014. My room looked old and the sheets were clean, although the comforter looked terrifyingly disgusting. All the furniture in this room was damaged, and I have heard... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The entire hotel will have been rehabbed in a few months, but obviously you weren't in one of those sections. We are in a desirable location, and we aim to offer a completely updated facility in the near future. More

This hotel was the worst place my husband and I have ever stayed with no exception. We were promised a renovated room but it was obvious that they had not told the truth. The lobby, if I may call the bedraggled check in counter a lobby, was small, drab and ridiculously air conditioned with free standing units that merely blew... More

Thank you for your review. The hotel is under major renovation and much work needs to be done. It is possible, in communications between employees, that you heard one thing and got another. For that, we apologize. We do care. The fact you didn't feel that way, is a point of discussion here at Chicago Lake Shore. More

The hotel gives a beat up first impression, but has all the practical needs (restaurant etc) met. Certainly not a destination hotel, but fully sufficient for a night's sleep. Was a Ramada until recently and staff says it will be a La Quinta soon

My son and I stayed at the Chicago Lake Shore Hotel for our recent trip to Chicago. My brother and sister in law had booked the room for us as they were also traveling there. I was a little leery at first seeing as how our rooms were located outside the main building in another building outside. This set-up housed... More

I think we got one of the renovated rooms, and it was very nice! The only thing I could ask for is some towel bars and hooks in the bathroom. We had a large refrigerator and a microwave! Also, the outdoor swimming pool was huge--I'm pretty sure it is just short of 25 yards from end to end--it was very... More

Thank you for your very kind remarks regarding your recent stay with us. Your comment about the "cool" pool was spot on. We don't say "cooler by the lake" for nothing. We are glad to hear that Jude and Tamar were so helpful to you. We hope you'll stay with us again. More

My plane was late, Budget Rental car took an hour to pick me up, then when I got to the hotel, I was told that I could not check in, because it was after 3am. I laid down on the couch in the lobby. I don't mind that the hotel was run down, but why do they turn business down... More

GREAT amazing location, decent BED to sleep on and thee friendliest shuttle driver EVER!! And that is where the positives end. As soon as we pull up to the hotel you can still see the old "Ramada" sign imprinted in dirt on the Front of the building. When we were checking in the receptionist was not friendly, did not smile... Thank you for your comments. Our old sign was removed and what you see is the difference in color in the stucko around the old letters but not dirt as you say. I am happy to say that we are excited about the renovation and they have just begun working on the outside which will give us a new look... More

Shannon, front-desk staff member, is truly outstanding. The hotel itself clearly has seen much better and earlier days, however, and the lobby area should be among the first to get a really good makeover. The affiliated restaurant was excellent, while pricey (you are lakefront in Chicago, after all). The price was reasonable, even considering the additional premium to guarantee a... More
