I stayed here for a conference that was held downtown. The shuttle to Central Loop was a very nice feature of the hotel (otherwise it is a $15 cab ride to downtown). The staff and hotel owner very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable.

This was one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. It is right by a very busy highway. Part of the hotel, which looks like a two-story prefab, is being remodeled so you are in the middle of a construction site. The screens on the window, which looked onto a car park, were broken. We asked for a... More

Thank you for your review. Yes, we are under construction and it clearly bothered you. We're sorry you experienced an inconvenient stay. While you are entitled to your opinion, we must state facts. The Lake Shore Hotel is not located in a dangerous neighborhood--far from it. The houses and condos around the property are million dollar homes, and the Hyde... More

TL/DR: Reception poor and disorganized, hotel in very poor condition (being renovated), location not convenient to public transportation. Would advise spending a bit more money and staying somewhere in the loop and taking Metra, CTA or cab (<15$) to get to Hyde Park. Rooms, however, seemed clean if you don't care about the rest. I'm a pretty low brow reviewer,... More

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Respectfully, the hotel is two blocks from the METRA train station and Bus #106 ($2.25) which runs 24 hours a day into the heart of the Loop. You also neglected to mention our free shuttle bus to and from the Loop, which you could have taken from our door. We... More

I have stayed at this hotel for 12 years on various visits to Chicago. I prefer to stay here due to the closeness to the venues that I display and sell my jewelry. I have seen the worst and I am happy to say the remodeled rooms in the main building are fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised and I can... More

I stayed at the hotel for two nights. The experience was awful and I am not sure where to even begin. 1) The building is extremely unsafe. To get to your room, you need to go up an elevator in a seedy parking garage. Uber/taxi drivers hesitated to even drop you off there. As you can see in the pictures,... More

Thank you for your review. You arrived a day early for your conference and were informed that the hotel was in some disarray but would be ready the next day. Our shuttle was not involved in your conference. The University of Chicago provided their own shuttle; your issue is with them. Our shuttle DID offer some service when the U.... More

We stayed in this hotel because it was conveniently located in the Hyde Park neighborhood AND on the lakeshore. The hotel was currently under construction, so our hallway was a bit of a disappointment, but the rooms were nice and clean. One floor was already completed, though, and it looked BEAUTIFUL! Parking was free in a covered lot. Both the... More

We went around the block twice looking for the lobby entrance. Remodeling? Maybe one workman seen. Building paint is peeling. You can see into the old lobby. A light is hanging from the ceiling. We entered through a very DARK garage that can possibly hold 20 cars. We passed a six foot man at the entrance with his bottle in... More

Obviously you weren't happy. May we say, seeing one workman is not proof of incompetence. We have a fleet of workers and the work is progressing. We don't get what seeing a six foot man has to do with anything. We aren't responsible for customers' fears, but we can assure our customers, the hotel is safe and the walk to... More

When I arrived, it was hard to find the entrance - they are doing a lot of construction. We found it, at last, by going through the parking garage in the back. We called it our "secret entrance." I asked the man at the front desk (actually the back/garage desk) how long the construction had been going on and he... More

Thanks for writing. Just to set the record straight, we're renovating the entire hotel. Our workout facility--yes, we do have one--is closed while the lobby is under construction. Our elevator meets the code of the City of Chicago and is a standard size. We're sorry to hear your experience wasn't what you wanted. More

The place looks like a dump. It was so deserted when we arrived at about 8:30 pm that I felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. The first room we were sent to had only one bed, not what I had reserved. I called down to the desk but no one answered so went back downstairs.... More

Thank you for writing a review. We are indeed renovating, but that has nothing to with service. We're sorry our clerk didn't ask how things were. When we arrived, we noticed the Hotel was under major renovations. We walked in to find a quiet, clean, and attractive lounge with friendly and hospitable staff working the front desk.
