When I arrived, it was hard to find the entrance - they are doing a lot of construction. We found it, at last, by going through the parking garage in the back. We called it our "secret entrance." I asked the man at the front desk (actually the back/garage desk) how long the construction had been going on and he... More

The place looks like a dump. It was so deserted when we arrived at about 8:30 pm that I felt like I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone. The first room we were sent to had only one bed, not what I had reserved. I called down to the desk but no one answered so went back downstairs.... More

Thank you for writing a review. We are indeed renovating, but that has nothing to with service. We're sorry our clerk didn't ask how things were. She would have listened had you decided to share your experience. The WiFi is a problem--we're working on it. Respectfully, there are many reasons to stay at our hotel: price, food, Hyde Park vibe,... More

When we arrived, we noticed the Hotel was under major renovations. We walked in to find a quiet, clean, and attractive lounge with friendly and hospitable staff working the front desk. As a matter of fact all the staff, even the maintenance and housekeeping staff were very friendly and took the time to give a smile and a hello, or... More

Stayed 1 night at this this hotel which is actually more of a motel than a hotel. Check in was simple and the sole check in member of staff was friendly but seemed a bit stressed. I can only assume it had been a busy day for him. We stayed in the annex building outside and were given ground floor... More

When we arrived I was in shock by how run down it was. They shouldn't be open! Window AC units on end tables to cool lobby. Front desk not helpful, didn't have our fridge ready and couldn't get until next morning. Our room was a sauna because they had plastic over windows and unit so ac couldn't work properly. Filthy... We get that you didn't like your stay with us. But some of the things you wrote demand clarification. Chicago does not have a rat problem; you may have confused us with New York City. Certainly, our hotel has no rats. Power outages are acts of God--we didn't perpetrate a power outage to inconvenience you. The air conditioner you photographed... More

For the fifth time in 2 1/2 years I stayed here for 2 consecutive nights while moving my child into UChicago. The staff working the front desk as well as cleaning crew have always been nice, helpful and accommodating. The room itself was clean and fairly updated. However, the outside of the building was literally falling apart. Renovations are under... More

The supposedly renovated rooms are dated, stink, and are noisy because of the air conditioner and the busy nearby road. Wi-Fi doesn't work properly and its restaurant doesn't serve anything that isn't deep fried. This hotel has no redeeming qualities.

Thank you for your review. Most of our guests are quite pleased re the new rooms. We're sorry you don't agree. With respect, the majority of restaurant items on our menu are not deep fried. As for noise, you are referring to Lake Shore Drive, the first multiple-lane highway built in the US. Alas, we cannot move that iconic drive,... More

We just stayed at this hotel for 3 nights, 4 days since it was the closest to The University of Chicago for O Week. Prior to our arrival, we have read both the positive & negative reviews (which we do for all of our travels), and were quite skeptical of this hotel initially. Upon our arrival on Sept. 20th, with... Our family makes an annual medical visit to Chicago. This was our fourth visit to the Chicago Lakeshore Hotel and the ONLY place we plan to stay while there. The hotel is reasonably priced, especially for its excellent location! It is located near our medical facility but is also located near downtown, Navy Pier, the museum campus, Soldier Field, and... Visited this property for 5 nights in early September. It is located in a prime area that makes it easily accessible to downtown Chicago. Ample onsite covered parking available for free however you MUST register your vehicle to avoid being towed. The hotel itself is undergoing renovations so it is a bit noisy during the daytime but its very quiet... More
