Here's the good news: The Red Roof Inn on East Ontario Street is 50 yards from Michigan Ave. (the Magnificent Mile). It's within walking distance of the lake beaches, Navy Pier, the Chicago river boat tours, and LOTS of shopping and restaurants. The Grand Ave. EL train stop is a one mile walk away (Grand and State). There is a... More

Unless you get a really rock-bottom price, skip this place. There are other, better places all around this area, often at comparable prices. Our room's A/C did nothing except make noise while the hallways were dirty and staff distracted at best. While nobody expects Red Roof to rival the Intercontinental, I'd say this place is not very good, even for... More

We spent 5 nights at Red Roof Inn dowtown Chicago and our stay was more than horrible. On the plus side, the location and....that's it. I really don't know how they can call it an hotel. Rooms were dirty and smelly. When we come back at the hotel at the end of the day, room was not cleaned and beds... More

Booked three rooms at this hotel, largely for location downtown and certainly price. Good choice for first objective, horrible failure on second. You get what you pay for, and after paying for location and convenience it seems the Red Roof fails to hire housekeepers. Rooms (we had three) were all dirty, never properly attended to during two day stay, and... More

I had read the revviews of this hotel prior to booking. It was rated rather low, but the price was right on this trip. We were skeptical before we arrived, but truthfully, it was a fine hotel. It certainly is not a Four Seasons, but for the price and location, you can't go wrong. The negatives we felt were the room... More

The room was dirty, small, only one elevator worked for guests and staff. My feet hung over the bed, bathroom was small with rust stains everywhere. We will not go back. The rooms were way over priced, even for location.

Always start out with the good...this hotel is in a great location, perhaps one block east of the Magnificent Mile, and easy stroll to the lake or Navy Pier, maybe five blocks from the nearest L station...very reasonably priced for it's location. And the staff was all very pleasant as well. Unfortunately though, it's an older property in need of... More

Let's start with the good. The hotel is located just a block away from Michigan Ave in the heart of downtown Chicago. Staying here gives you access to all that Michigan Ave and surrounding areas have to offer. The hotel is small and quaint. Although there isn't a parking structure, there is a valet right in front. Valet parking is... More

The staff was very friendly and the location was great, walking distance to many things. Rooms are very small and the tiniest bathroom I have ever seen. Price was good considering it was downtown Chicago so I would say we got what we paid for.

My son and I arrived at the hotel early. It was a Saturday and the Hotel was very busy. We were able to check our luggage in and did some sightseeing. We got back to the hotel and right at 3:00pm our room was ready. The front desk staff was very courteous and friendly. They were swamped. I recommend this... More
