The Red Roof (part of a chain) is a former Best Western tower block hotel in the centre of Chicago. We had a 9th Floor room and it was fine, though the corridor outside was in need of some serious attention - it was a little shabby. Still the room was OK and the staff were amenable. Wi-Fi only seemed... More

Possibly the best location you could ask for in downtown Chicago, everything is walking distance away. The hotel itself was very acceptable for the cost of the room. Clean, tidy and excellent staff. Beds comfortable and clean with towels changed daily. Would stay here again.

The location was perfect. We weren't expecting a luxury hotel, but this fit our needs. We were walking distance to many of the Chicago attractions, or a maximum of two blocks from any bus stop. We had a couple of minor issues during our stay, but Ken (and Danta) was friendly & funny as he (they) offered assistance. The room... More

Only good thing is location, you need to get rid of the front desk person named Mel, she is rude and no customer service at all, will never return. i stayed before with no problems but this time was unbelieveable.

My best friend and I booked the Redroof Inn via PriceLine. We received a great rate for 5 days and four nights. I was ecstatic that I was going to be staying in Chicago near the Magnificent Mile. I arrived in Chicago and went to check in. I was a little worried because check-in time isn't until 4:00 pm. Our... More

This hotel is very tired looking the room we stayed in was veryl small and the air con was not working very well and was very noisy. The lift was very grubby, but the reception staff were very accommodating the location was excellent too.

Positive: Location & Price. Clean Room Negative: Unable to Check in until 4:00 pm, night stand outlets didn't work Generally if I review a hotel that costs $142 a night, I'd hold it to a much higher standard, and I know some paid as much as $240 after taxes and such. But when you figure most hotels in the area... More

My cousin and I bought this hotel off Groupon. We arrived early so we went in for them to storage our luggage until checkin time at 4pm. The lady at the front desk named Mel checked to make sure we had a reservation. She looked at us and rudely said with an attitude: "ugh!... You booked through groupon...we HATE groupon... More

walking distance to downtown State Street and Michigan Ave. Rooms were small, as noted by other travelers - but all we needed was a place to sleep at night. The airconditioning worked, but perhaps that was confusing to some people because it was operated not at the unit but by the newer looking thermostat on the wall. Note to yoga... More

Dear kumarido, Thank you very much for your extremely informative and accurate review. I'm sure others will find it most helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to mention so many important details. I would like to point out that we do have some rooms that are completely carpeted, but will do our best to honor a "no carpet,... More

Staying in Magnificent Mile

Neighborhood Profile
Magnificent Mile
Over 400 stores pack the concrete along Michigan Avenue, the eight-block stretch known as Magnificent Mile. This area between Oak Avenue and the Chicago River is more a shopping paradise than a full-out neighborhood. For prime upscale shopping, this is the place to go. It’s busy, energetic, and packed with shoppers. You'll also find hundreds of restaurants and dozens of hotels, all on the mid- to high-end scale. Some of the city’s most iconic buildings like the Wrigley Building, John Hancock Center and other architectural marvels define the magnificence of this neighborhood.
