I'm a fan of shabby chic, so I appreciated the monogrammed wallpaper, circa 1950, and creaky corridors. This well-positioned hotel on Michigan Avenue has a lobby full of marble and enormous rooms with huge windows, BUT good luck getting a hot shower or an operable iron. Even still, I'd be a fan, until I found out the hotel is involved... More

Stayed here based on the reviews and the close proximity to McCormick Place Convention Center. Many years ago this place must have been magnificent but now it is badly in need of an update. The bed was comfortable enough, but that was the high point of the stay. The bathroom was tiny and in my opinion inadequate for the price... More

This hotel is conveniently located to shopping and restaurants. Many attractions are within walking distance. This is an old historic hotel. Although the architecture is interesting, it appeared dirty and in ill repair. We did not try the restaurants on site.

We chose to stay at the Congress Plaza in Chicago after a trip from California on the California Zephyr. The positives for us were the price and location. The many negative comments gave us pause, but after reading other comments concerning the picket line and that many of the negative reviews might be bogus, we went ahead and stayed two... More

Worst room I've ever seen. ever. Had reserved four nights for the chicago marathon weekend. Told front desk I would be checking out the next morning as they would not refund my first night. The woman at the front desk told me it was no problem. I then went a block down to the hilton. beautiful. Stayed there for the... More

Located in a splendid location on Michigan Avenue, Grant Park and the lake, The Congress Plaza is one of the major historic hotels in Chicago. The hotel which dates back to 1893 was referred to as “Home of the Presidents” since from McKinley, Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt up to Nixon many Presidents stayed there or made their appearance. While the... More

This grand old lady needs more than botox - a major refit or facelift is required. They say 15 US presidents have used it and so too, apparently, did Al Capone. Maybe they weren't fussy or the last presidential visit was some decades ago. The rooms are just adequate but tired, decor starting to get shabby. Food service was barely... More

Stayed here for 4 nights. Our room overlooked Grant Park and was large comfortable and could not be faulted. Loved the decor and the foyer/bar area worked a treat. Food was fairly average but overall a well located hotel from which to visit Chicago.

The only positive thing this hotel has going for it is its location on Michigan Avenue. Hotel rooms are old, run down and yuckie. I wouldn't stay here again. Beds were nice and staff was helpful.

Booked a room at the Congress to take advantage of a contract they had with a race that was being held in the city. Was also hosting out of town company, so looking to provide an enjoyable experience. When I booked the room, I requested one of the renovated rooms. The receptionist told me that they have all been renovated.... More
