It is very difficult to be too negative about this place. Sure the rooms are somewhat run down & shabby but the setting, views & people are all fab. I heard that the place has been the subject of the world's longest running labor dispute (13 years) As a result the City won't let the owners make the investment required... More

Facility was clean. I loved the high ceilings in the rooms and the extra tall doors. Very vintage. Staff was friendly and helpful. It does show it's age but that adds to its appeal. The room was very warm, we even had to open the window even though the temp was in the 20s. I would recommend to those not... More

My boyfriend and I stayed in a Lakeview room this past weekend, and it was perfectly acceptable for us. There was a beautiful view, but they could definitely use some better curtains because the light was entirely blinding in the morning, even with the curtains drawn shut. The room was too warm--we ended up having to open the windows. Definitely... More

This is my second stay at this hotel. It is a worn out,old hotel. The hotel was so empty this time of year that it felt like a horror movie. We were provided a room on the back side of the hotel, so we had the wonderful opportunity to listen to the trains. With an empty hotel, you would think... More

We selected the Congress for our trip to Chicago because I had stayed at the hotel for my 10th birthday (a LONG time ago!) and I've always loved seeing the lit sign behind Grant Park. It was old and shabby then; not much has changed in the last 30 years, but it is CLEAN and the staff is very helpful... More

PROS I booked this hotel for NYE this year. It was the cheapest rate I could get in downtown Chicago, but still was not inexpensive. Location is not too bad, on Michigan Ave. just south of Millennium Park. The lobby was beautiful and service at check-in was quick despite the line. CONS The building is very old, the decor and... The lobby is stunning and the staff at the front desk was great. Then you get out of the elevator on your floor to find and old dilapidated building that has not been well cared for. Once in the room, I found it to be cleanish, with awful decor. The work that had been done to this hotel over the... More

Located near Cloud Gate, Soldier Field, the Field Museum, the Art Institute, the lake and more. Our room was clean and quiet, the bar was lively (it could've been b/c it was a game weekend) and the hotel was w/in walking distance to a lot, which is mostly why we stayed there. Nothing over-the-top-fantastic, but it's hard to beat that... More

It is an old building with sufficient updates to the bathroom. The location is great, right across from Grant Park. Many restaurants are within walking distance. I have no issue with bugs or getting stuff stolen but conceivably both could exist. For me, the price was unexpectedly low. But then I was given a group rate because I booked the... More

This hotel is located right in the heart of the Loop surrounded by plenty of restaurants, bars, and attractions. It is very close to a CTA red line station as well as many bus stops for getting around town. There is also a bar, restaurant, arcade, and small fitness center located right inside the hotel. The concierge was very helpful... More

Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city.
