Overall hotel was wonderful. Our room was huge. There was trouble with the heating unit and room was very warm. Security came and cracked the window open to get some relief. Hotel is within walking to distance to shopping and public transportation stops are right outside the door. Breakfast was very expensive, $16 I think for an omelet. However the... More

Let me list the bad things first. The rooms are tiny. I stayed three nights and the room didn't get cleaned. When I called the front desk, I was told that because I asked for extra towels, that meant I didn't want the room cleaned. Have you ever heard of that? The hotel is a landmark and sadly it isn't... We always stay at the Congress when we are in Chicago because it is close to everything we love there. Yeah, it's old and kinda strangely laid-out (probably due to age and renovations), but we like its quirkiness and you absolutely can not beat the price in the loop. They have a great family suite that suits us to a... More

I used a Groupon to select the Congress Hotel in Chicago, IL. The location is GREAT! Walking distance to so many things, including public transportation. The room was large in size, adequately appointed, comfortable bed and pretty quiet, even though our room was facing Michigan Avenue. The staff was pleasant and courteous. The Hotel has its charm, but I LOVE... More

My wife and I booked here many months in advance. We wanted a place not too far a cab ride from Union Station but near interesting places we could walk to during the one evening we had in Chicago. We only found out upon arriving that the Lollapallooza Festival was going on in the park across the street. This did... More

This was our first time in Chicago and we booked a 3 starts hotel through a website without knowing the hotel's name, only the aprox. location. Unfortunately, after booking we figured out we book the Congress Plaza. This hotel should receive a 2 starts or 1.5 starts for it's infrastructure that puts in dangerous the life of almost a thousand... More

An excellent Older hotel. Located directly across from Lake Michigan. Very close to the L station. We walked to the station and caught the L to Wrigley Field. No car needed. We had breakfast in there restaurant. The service was great. The Staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a spectacular view from or room. The bed was so... More

The rooms are dated and it's a shame as it clearly once was a very nice and grand Hotel. It's in a prime location though and pretty decent value overall. I didn’t try either of the restaurants so can’t comment on the food.

Good location and affordable stayed for only 1 night. Close to a lot good food in the restaurant. and the navy pier is a $10 can ride. Staff was really friendly helped us find late night food. Valet parking is only $5 more per night and worth it!

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

    Neighborhood Profile
    Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
