The staff were very friendly and shower was ok. Right by the lake and the hotel was full. Noisy corridor outside the room however the staff made the effort to look after us. Nice bar area and 2 pool tables. Quite expensive for what you got but clean and in the right place.

We had a wonderful Girl Scout trip to Chicago. The Congress Plaza Hotel was in the perfect location to view the Shedd and Field Museum. The hotel was clean and the staff was very helpful. The hotel is older but it was clean and comfortable. We had no trouble finding it and we walked from the Metra Station. We will... More

We stayed four nights at this wonderful hotel which was located in the heart of it all. The room was clean and newly renovated. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It was within walking distance to most places that we wanted to go and close to the bus stop or metro if not. The bed was comfortable and the... More

+ Location is good and convenient for everything in the city center. Many metro and bus stops nearby. Chicago's all main attractions and within walking distance. Fantastic view from the hotel (if your room is on Michigan avenue side): park, lake, monuments, Skyscrapers. - Old stile rooms, strong renovation is needed. Not very clean rooms. Breakfast is not included in... More

Stayed in this beautiful downtown hotel. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was huge as was the bed! Perhaps the bathroom would need updated but it didn't take away from the enjoyment. They even have an outside pizza menu in the room where they will deliver direct to the hotel reception!! amazing. Would recommend this hotel even... More

My husband and I stayed here on a weekend vacation. Our room was incredibly small. We had a corner room and was very close to the room next to us. The bathroom was right next to the bed which was very awkward. However, if I were going for a weekend again, I wouldn't be opposed to staying here again based... More

I ended up staying at the Congress Plaza Hotel, April 2015, during the HIMSS Annual Convention at McCormick Convention Center. As a former hotel owner/operator, it's difficult to know where to begin my commentary…don't be fooled by its once majestic lobby photos. It's a property where time stood still and the owner hasn't been bothered to keep up with modern... More

I recently stayed at this hotel and I was grandly disappointed. The only redeeming part to this hotel was the proximity to shopping and Millennium Park. As for the hotel let's begin with check-in. The front desk wasn't swamped the staff was less than patient or friendly. The room, zero frills to say the least. When I walked into the... More

We had a great time at the hotel on a trip for a Miami Dolphins @ Chicago Bears NFL game, the hotel is like 30min walking distance to Soldier Field, and have very spacious rooms. We went here in a group of Dolphins Fans and the hotel staff was always very helpful and friendly with us, they said we were... More

The Congress Hotel is the strangest tragedy of a hotel I've ever experienced. It's a tragedy because the building itself has some great history and no one seems to care about reflecting that within the hotel rooms. Now, it is not a dirty place and the staff are all lovely. But the rooms are slapdash and uninspired. The walls are... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
