My partner and I stayed here in late August 2015. We both loved the hotel. The hotel offers very affordable rates for a downtown Chicago location (just southeast of the Loop), so I was expecting mediocre accommodations. But I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel is! My room was very spacious and well-furnished, and very clean. The... More

Exposed wires in room, broken glass in hallway, bathroom so scary both of us refused to take a shower. This is the cheapest hotel on the mile but not worth it. Should have spent $100 more and been happy.

Old place, lost in time but we enjoy it and it is close to the park. I think it is overpriced for how old and broken down it is yet it does have character and history. I like the bar with a sofa and chairs, that was a nice place to relax with family. The beds are pretty hard, doors... More

We stayed at the Congress this past weekend for my bachelorette party. The hotel is beautiful and had an old world elegance about it. We checked in and had a room on the 14th floor. We had a suite with one king bed and two double beds. Our room was beautiful and very clean. The bathroom was nice sized as... More

A friend and I stayed here recently during our first trip to Chicago. The hotel is in a great spot on the Magnificent Mile, directly across from Buckingham Fountain, and is within walking distance to most of the main attractions. The rooms are clean, although the bathrooms could use a bit of updating. The drawbacks: the staff wasn't very friendly,... More

The view from the east facing fourteenth floor of the south building was incredible! Great large windows with old window sills to sit on.The creaky old room was very large and clean. It was all white and very high, turn of twentieth century ceilings. It was great for the price we paid. The bathroom was Alfred Hitchcockish, but very clean.... More

The people at the front desk are a mixed bag. Some are not happy to be there - others are happy and welcoming. The building is old. It doesn't need a remodel - it needs to be gutted. No doubt they try to clean as well as they can - but when the paint is falling off or there's caulking... More

I usually don't write reviews for hotels, so take this to be my first. For my wife and I's first trip to Chicago, we were looking for a hotel option that was reasonable price and had a great location. Low and behold, we scored a great deal for Congress Plaza. We had read many of the reviews on all of... More

Reading the reviews on here did prepare me for what the room/hotel conditions would be like, but I will say that it wasn't that bad at all! It is a bargain for the location - I was lucky enough to stay in the South Tower on the 14th floor with a view of the Water & Park. Fridges are available,... More

This would be one of the hardest hotels to review and can only sneek into the very good catagory through history, view (if you pay a little more) and price. Dont get me wrong, nothing went wrong, but its just one of those hotels that could be so much more. This was my second stay here although the last stay... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
