Great location, view, accommodations, and pool/exercise for the experienced traveler. Lots of Northern European guests, which tells you this hotel is a good deal and clean. Near all the major Chicago attractions, free shuttle to museums, walk to Millenium Park, right at Grant Park, two blocks from Buddy Guy's (best blues club in the US A ). Shopping, theater, and... Great location on Michigan Ave. Great fitness center/pool with awesome sundeck. Easy walk to train, shopping, sights and Millenium Park. My wife, teenage son and I stayed and had a blast.

Walking distance of the museums. It was clean and nice. No complaints. The bathroom was tiny, and the hotel was a touch old but it did not affect the quality of my stay. Parking was expensive. We parked and walked 2 blocks and saved more than half.

We stayed for one night before an onward journey to New York having travelled from San Francisco. Check in was quick and efficient and handled by friendly staff. The hotel is perfectly placed for access to the various museums and Soldier Field and is a few paces away from the bus stop for the 'Hop on hop off' trolley bus... More

Being on Michigan Avenue, you can't go wrong for the access to the museum campus, Art Institute, CSO and the Bears! But...the rooms are tired but comfortable, clean but in need of updating and maintenance - especially the bathroom and elevators. Parking is too expensive at $41 per night - cheaper parking is in the area. Overall, would not go... More

I stayed at the Essex Inn as a less expensive alternative to staying at the Hilton Chicago for a professional organization conference. Overall I was very happy with this decision. The room seemed recently remodeled. My king room had updated an updated bathroom with modern decor and furniture. My room included a mini-fridge and large flat panel TV. The bed... More

this room was just average. I cannot image what the standard rooms looked like if this is a king deluxe. The bathroom was INCREDIBLY small... you could not fit two people in it. The room was clean but overall the decor in the entire hotel is dated. The braisserie attached to hotel is very nice.

Great location, despite being a little south of the much trendier Magnificent Mile. Opposite the park, so ideal if you enjoy an early morning walk before breakfast. Both the Shed aquarium and Field Museum are walk-able, as are all the main sites of interest. Despite the hotel being a little tired, the rooms and hotel in general were clean and... More

We stayed at the Essex Inn for 3 nights. The location was good for us - as we enjoy walking, and liked being opposite the park. The hotel is rather tired, but it was clean and the staff were very friendly (one of the few hotels we stayed in on this trip where it appeared that you were remembered when... More

I stayed at Essex Inn whilst attending a Convention at McCormick Place. The hotel staff were friendly and the rooms perfectly acceptable. Free WiFi and Fox Soccer on the TV; great if you can't sleep due to jet-lag. Coffee machine in the room, but no jug to make it usable. Didn't bother to enquire if it was available for a... More
