Stayed 7 days during the Graph Expo print trade show in Septmber. Hotel is OK but some rooms are pretty small. Bed fairly comfortable and not much noise even though we were immediately across from the elevator. Bus to trade show left from the Hilton across the street. For some reason staff kept failing to replace the glasses even though... More

A welcoming staff after a long delay on an Amtrak journey (16 hours + delay....) allowed us entry into our spacious room early in the morning (even though we hadn't contacted them after our 'no show' the previous evening). We enjoyed a 'longed-for' bath and coffee before a quick nap in the very comfortable bed. Although close to the El,... More

We enjoyed the location of this hotel very much. It was close to a lot of different tourist attractions and restaurants. We booked this hotel through priceline.com name your own price. The restaurant in the hotel served only Chicago made drinks and we thought that was pretty cool, since we are from Baltimore and can't try them at home. The... More

I stayed at the Chicago Essex Inn for 5 days and got a bargain trade-show related low price. Hotel is recently renovated; room interior has pleasant modern colors; rooms look boutique-style decorated and I immediately felt comfortable. I had two queen beds and a nice sized room with plenty of space for luggage and to move around. Downstairs a modern... More

On 8/21/11 we were passing thru Chicago while going across country and wanted to stay only one night and one full day. We were not sure exactly when we would be getting there so did not make reservations ahead of time. We were very hesitant about the Essex because of recent postings. We were unable to find any other rooms... More

Stayed 5 nights at this hotel. Located on Michigan Avenue, the hotel as been recently renovated. An older building, the rooms (particularly the bathroom) are a bit small but well laid out. A very nice king size bed a good view of the park. The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant was good with a very basic menu.... More

I stayed at the Essex Inn for 2 non-consecutive nights in early August while I was in Chicago to catch some White Sox games. The hotel was conveniently located to subway stations and within easy walking distance of Grant Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, and other downtown amenities. I was given early access to my room on one occasion... More

Having seen some good reviews for the Essex I decided to stay here with my wife and children for three nights from London as part of a us holiday . Sadly I was not impressed,The so called "family" room was far too small for two adults /two children in their early teens .while the bathroom /wash basin etc were also... More

PLUS: location, shuttle, staff very helpful, within walking distance to many attractions, trolley stop at corner, pool, outdoor deck MINUS: rooms were small (but we new that before going), restaurant very pricey, poor lighting in room (my kids got sick of me complaining about this).

We won this on Priceline for $110 Bid. We were there during Labor Day and a Jazz Festival so hotels were full. I was a little worried after reading the reviews. We checked in and were quite happy that my phone request had been remembered. We asked for 2 beds and a quiet room - away from the train tracks.... More
