I really wanted to like the Union League Club; I really did. And while it excelled as a meeting venue, without some changes it’s unlikely I’d stay in their hotel again. Please forgive my long-winded explanation: As another reviewer noted, the hours of the entrances seem a bit restrictive and unnecessarily complicated. As Chicago is supposed to be a 24-hour... More

We had a very nice stay. Central location was a plus if you want to be downtown. Our rooms were not big, but the beds were big and very comfortable. The bathroom is a little small and the views aren't spectacular, but, what do you expect in downtown Chicago. The fitness center and spa were fabulous so don't miss those.... More

I've stayed at the Union League a number of times and gave it high marks. This time, however, was different. Too many lapses in attention to detail to ignore. First, the desk lamp did not work. Second, there were so many wires coming from the only nearby plug, I couldn't figure out whether the lamp plug was to blame or... More

I stayed at the Union League club over the course of 4 days while traveling for business in The Loop. The hotel room I stayed in was clean and complimentary WiFi was also provided although it was extremely slow. I slept well since it was quiet when I was there, meaning there were no major events in the functional areas.... More

I changed hotels this year for the conference I attend, and chose the Union League Hotel, in part because I have reciprocal membership. I had an idea of what to expect: traditional decor and service, which was what I got. I didn't have a refrigerator in my room, and was provided one as soon as I asked, which was nice.... More

Worst hotel experience ever. If you want to stay high on 2:30 am, this is the place. Otherwise if you want a good sleep, two words: stay away. Let's face it: it is an old place and it holds events. I can clearly hear every single talk in the hallway. That is why I was waken up by crazy people... More

Stuffy, staid, and stodgy. This is not to be compared to an upscale hotel. I used a reciprocity arrangement since I am a member at The Union League, Philadelphia. The Philadelphia club is ranked the #1 city club in the nation and far outshines the Chicago club in so many ways from accommodations, to atmosphere, to food, to service!

Thanks to age and intrigued, learning to seek out our country's great turn of the century clubs. And this one's a beauty. A great mixture of history, Americana and superior service. Can't wait to return and try others. Plus there's a one-of-a kind Guy Buffet painting of the main ballroom greets you at the registration desk. We love Guy's work.

Summary: classy, elegant place to stay. Suitable for business and most certainly an excellent choice to recommend to out-of-towners. Beautiful art collections and woodwork; outstanding service in all regards from the cleanliness of the hotel room to the restaurants and bars.
