The Good: The building is very cool looking. The decor of the hotel is great and the rooms are nice. The Bad: $$$$$$$- too expensive for what you get My wife and I transferred to this hotel after staying at the Hyatt O'hare for business. We wanted to see some of the sites Chicago has to offer. The location is... More

We stayed here for three nights during June 2005 and it is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The room was ultra clean, stylish and spacious. The restaurant is also very good here and the location cannot be beaten - just minutes walk from the hub of the city centre, shops, great restaurants etc. We were also impressed... More

My wife and I loved this hotel. It is stylish, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Our king-sized room was first class with a bathroom so lovely that we took photos of it with a view to copying some of their ideas in our own bathroom. We loved the rather funky lobby and the bar is welcoming and obviously a popular... More

Was required to stay to here on company business. Pros: Great location, great views, very nice rooms, decent staff Cons: In my opinion WAY overpriced, as I paid about $200 for one night, and the elevators are VERY slow. Also, parking is ridiculous, although that is to be expected in this area of Chicago

Wife and I stayed over Memorial Day weekend. Can't say enough about it. Staff was friendly and attentive. Walking distance to Magnificent Mile and Lake Shore Dr. One block from Rush Street bars and restaurants. Two blocks from the subway. Beautiful rooms with minimalist design. Hugh windows afforded great views from 30th floor. Bed was incredibly comfortable. Luxurious bathroom. Room... More

I've stayed at and loved Sofitels in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, so I was excited to try the Windy City version--and wasn't disappointed. The building itself is a distinctive architectural gem in the City of Architecture. With its triangular shape and narrowing angle toward the top, it looks like a ship's prow--very striking. The lobby is chic and more... More

We stayed at the Sofitel Water Tower in May 2005 and had a perfect stay. We were greeted warmly upon check-in, an earlier request for high floor, lake view rooms was promptly honored, including rooms next to each other for our entire party. Rooms on the 27th floor, overlooking the skyline, Hancock Tower and the lake in the distance were... More

Just returned from a weekend trip to Chicago. I wanted to write and tell other readers I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. I am pretty picky about where I stay, and when I walked in the lobby and hotel room I knew I would like it. The hotel is conviently located near Michigan and Rush street, and a few... More

It's all about the bed. Amazingly comfortable. I usually wake up 3-4 times a night in hotels due to the unfamiliar room, bed, etc. The feather fiesta that is the Sofitel bed is unbelievably comfortable, and I slept soundly through each night I was there. I think that is quite a tribute to their bed's designer! The hotel itself is... More

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
