We (group of 4, 2 couples) drove to Chicago for the new year's and stayed at here. I'm a club accore gold member so they gave us a special rate for both rooms (which we were not expecting as it was the holiday season) everything about this hotel is good, from the nice staff to great restaurant and bar to... The service at this hotel is so friendly. They go out of their way to assist you. The amenities are fabulous. The location is downtown but not in an area that is crazy busy so the noise level isnot unbearable. The outdoor bar is great to sit out and have a glass of wine and either read or people watch.

The location is good; parking's a bit pricey; wish that there was complimentary breakfast. But, it's downtown Chicago!! I enjoyed my stay here. I've often stayed at the Talbot across the street, which is a smaller, European style hotel. Very different experiences, but like them both.

The Sofitel personnel were very gracious. Our room was well appointed and comfortable. The late afternoon stop at Le Bar was so convenient. Our wait person was gracious and we ordered drinks and snacks. Something for everyone. The hotel was close to Michigan Avenue and within walking distance of the Lake. What a beautiful walk through some beautiful neighborhoods. The hotel... More

I spent six nights at the Sofitel in Chicago; two alone and four with my husband. Our room was on the 30th floor with a view of the Hancock Building and a bit of the lake. The view was gorgeous, especially at night. The hotel itself is beautiful and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I hadn't been to... More

Absolutely loved this hotel. We stayed for a week in April and from start to finish the staff could not have been nicer. The hotel is extremely clean and well looked after, location is great and easy walking distance to a lot of places. We lucked out and had a fab view of the John Hancock building too, which I... this hotel has quiet and very clean rooms, very polite staff and it's in great location (located on high street, you're a stone away from restaurants and shops). It was a business trip this time but I definitely would go back and stay there again for leisure and business and totally recommend. Plus, the beds are so comfy that you... More

I stayed at the Sofitel over the Memorial Day weekend with seven girlfriends (all in our 50's), and we all agreed that the hotel couldn't have been better. We would all stay there again, if we were in Chicago. I won't repeat all the positive things that were said in previous reviews, will only say that they're all true. If... More

I enjoyed my stay at the Sofitel. The design is a bit dated (European 80s style) for a boutique hotel. Yet everything looked immaculate clean and fresh. The service was very accommodating at the front desk and free wifi in your room. It is located within blocks of stores, restaurants and the Magnificent Mile. My only complaint was that their... Comfy beds, small rooms, nice bathrooms, tiny closets, inattentive staff. The bathrooms were nice for the size of the rooms we had. The double beds were glorified twin beds, however very comfy. Nice turndown service with water brought to the too and the Bose radio flipped on. The closet was so small that barely any of our clothes fit. We... More

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighborhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
