I had the most wonderful time while my stay in HI Chicago! great accomodations, clean and met great people. Also took free tours. And the location is more than excellent. I barely used transportation. Great experience.

It was my 1st time at a hostel and it was amazing. We got a suite to have more privacy. It's like a small apartment. Breakfast is delicious and you have the chance to choose what you want from a variety of things. The staff is always kind and very helpful. There are activities to get to know the city,... More

This hotel is located OK but I have to say it's quite a bad value. I paid $130 for a spartan room with bath down the hall, which would have been fine for $49 a night. You can get a room across the street for the same price but with a TV, and private bath. Breakfast is no big deal... More

The location can't be beat, esp. when price is considered. Chicago is an expensive town but HI Chicago is a good alternative. The private rooms are small but clean with a bathroom shared by multiple rooms. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. Public transportation is close by. The only negative is the breakfast. The food wasn't plentiful and the... More

It cost me 50 british pound to stay 2 nights here. I have to say, it is really a bargain. I was in a 8 person's room, with private bathroom and shower room. it's really a large room, clean and tidy. WIFI is fast. there is a function room at level 2 and a full functionalized kitchen in each level.... More

I hate to leave a poor review considering the number of stellar comments, but my boyfriend & I did not enjoy our stay with Hostelling International Chicago. It's a shame too, because I love staying in hostels (Portland was my favorite). Pros: -This place wasn't a total letdown. The location was good, we appreciated the free wifi & use of... More

This was my third stay with HI Chicago and I have always enjoyed the visit. The staff are really helpful and every aspect of the facility is excellent: very clean, well appointed and maintained. I especially appreciate the dining room, its staff, and the excellent breakfast to start the day. Also, the front desk folks are the best--really helpful with... More

This hostel takes the cake. I was there during June 11-15th for a music festival(Spring Awakening). I stayed in a private room with my girlfriend which was clean and comfortable. The shared bathroom wasn't an issue actually, most of the time it was open. They offer free homemade breakfast of cereal, oatmeal, bagels and toast every morning. The hostel is... More

Just stayed for 3 nights and I was dubious having never sGaye's Ina hostel. However I was very impressed and would definitely stay again! Friendly staff, clean, spacious rooms & bathrooms, and the building/rooms felt very secure. The price is the best deal downtown and includes a very generous breakfast. The best part is its centrally located, within walking distance... More

During a 9-day visit to Chicago, I stayed in three hostels – IHSP, Hostelling International, and the Urban Holiday Lofts. The reason for staying in 3 different places was that the holiday was booked at the last minute and no single hostel had the full 9 days available. Hostelling International, or 'HI Chicago', was the second hostel I stayed in,... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
