This hostel was quite nice however we did have alot of trouble trying to pick up the wifi in our room which was a major downfall. We had a private room and it was quite nice and big enough for two people. This was one of the better hostels I have stayed in.

Wifi is non-existent in the rooms. Major con. Very modern. Very clean. Great bedding which never happens. Stellar location near transpo, Big lobby. Friendly staff. I had a deluxe female dorm which was two 4-bed separate rooms with a private bathroom: single toilet and shower, double sink. It stunk having to wait to use the bathroom when someone is in... More

Nestled in the curve of the L tracks in the heart of the college town the South Loop has become stands The J. Ira and Nicki Harris Family Hostel - an amazing facility I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone who'd consider staying in a hostel in the first place. I went for a bunk-bedded private room in a... More

I cannot speak highly enough of this hostel. It's in a fantastic location - just 5 minutes walk to Millennium Park and the lake front and a 2 minute walk to the metro which takes you to all the Chicago attractions within 15 minutes. I was staying in a 4 bed dorm with my friend and we instantly hit it... More

Stayed in a private room (double bed with single bunk on top) - 8 of these rooms share 1 women's bathroom and 1 men's (1 shower & 1 bathroom stall each), plus lounge and kitchen space. I stayed for a week (over Riot Fest weekend, too) and never had to wait for the bathroom or shower. Rooms, kitchen and lounge... More

Good location in the south loop, this converted building was quite nice. I stayed in a two room, four bed suite. Common area was next to kitchen, rooms clean and comfortable. Roommates took wrong beds at checkin but no big deal. Mass transit a block away. Fifteen minute walk across park to lakefront. Security good with room cards required not... More

It's in an awesome location, historic building but totally renovated and clean inside. The rooms were fairly spacious and the lockers in the room are plenty big. I loved meeting new people at breakfast and in the room. Most travelers are really friendly and open to conversation. Only downside was staying in a handicap room meant we had a bathroom... More

I had never visited Chicago as a tourist, in part because I had no free place to stay. I joined Hostelling International just so I could take advantage of the low rates at HI Chicago. My expectations were not very high, so I was really excited when I found the great location, thoughtful accommodations, and general ambiance at HI Chicago.... More

Great environment, super clean rooms and facilities. They provide a free walking tour through the city. The train passes in front of some rooms so it was difficult to fall asleep but is not a deal breaker.

The best Hostel we have ever stayed in. Large spacious room, clean facilities, generous breakfast, free guided tours and activities. This is a hostel mainly for the young ones but we didn't feel out of place, there were plenty of over 50's who were budget minded. A top hostel with helpful staff. Highly recommended.
