This was our first hostel experience and I can say it probably wont be our last. We were very apprehensive at first because we have never stayed in one before, however we wanted to see if it would be something we might use in Europe. We selected the private room because we did not want to have to share space.... More

Out of all the hostels I've stayed in in the past year this was one of the best! The location is awesome, within walking distance of everything and close to transit for the things that are not. There is an elevator so no dragging of backapacks/suitcases (it really does make a difference). The rooms are huge, I was a little... More

Cannot say enough about how convenient the location is. I was in town for a couple of days and was able to walk around the loop, dine out, visit friends etc. The front desk was helpful and there are a lot of group activities for first timers and solo travellers. Breakfast was wholesome with plenty of options, add to it... More

This hostel is really awesome, the room's are really big, you have a clean bathroom and the staff is watching for it all the time. The staff is friendly and helpful. It's really secured. Even the breakfast is great! And now the best, the location is worth it, you can really walk everywhere you want. Highly recommend the HI!

I flew in for a quick weekend trip to the BTN Big 10K. Because the race started at 7 a.m. near Soldier Field, I needed affordable lodging within decent walking distance. This was my first time in a hostel. This hostel is right in the middle of downtown, and many attractions and subway stations are nearby. The prices per night... More

I have stayed in about 200 youth hostels in the span of 3 years in 100 cities, but I found this youth hostel is the one of the best HI youth hostel. I stayed in this hostel in Dec 2012 on my RSNA conference trip. The location is great and the cost are good enough. Just 10 min walk you... More

I was very opened minded about staying in a Hostel and having read the reviews regarding cleanliness I was very hopeful. I have stayed in Hostels before so I wasn't expected 5*, that soon diminished when upon arrival we were told our room 'was still dirty' rather than it 'not being quite ready'. We booked a private room with a... More

For a hostel, this place is quite luxury. There are seven floors, free breakfast, elevators and volunteers who will provide you with information or trips. The location is great and the prices are reasonable. They might have the best showers I've experienced in hostels so far. The only reason why I didn't give it five stars is because it is... More

A friend and I stayed at the HI Chicago for two nights. We had a great experience! When we arrived we had amazing staff doing a quick and smooth check - in for us. We slept in a 10 bed female dorm and were amazed by the spacious room. Also the beds where very nice. Eventhough they were bunkbeds they... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
