The hotel was great. Even though it's about 29 years old, it's still a great stay. The views from the fitness center and pool are amazing on the 42nd floor and the staff was friendly and on point. We booked through booking.com but it was a bit high in price still. We also went to the spa which was worth... More

If you love to swim in a heated indoor pool, soak in the mother of all Jacuzzis and use a full complement of health equipment this hotel is for you. Outstanding locker room with great showers. Also, near Lake Michigan bike trails--you can rent a bike right in front of the hotel--and jogging trails. However, expect to pay more for... More

Hotel is in a decent location, good views, nicely decorated, and fairly clean. Had to wait 2 hrs to get our room, so we got a "complimentary upgrade." Some of the lights didn't work and our AC started making a terrible noise causing a sleepless night. Complained about the AC issue at checkout and nothing was done! Then, I was... More

reservation wasn't available, moved me to fairmont where the a/c was noisy and the bed wasn't correct, then moved me back to swisshotel where the bed wasn't what I reserved. Since they own the fairmont they just readily move you if they don't have rooms it seems

Dear Guest, We apologize for the trouble. While we are a proud member of the FRHI family, which includes the Fairmont Chicago, we don't regularly move rooms back & forth. The inconvenience you encountered is the first time this year for either hotel. Fortunately, the Fairmont is just across the street, so we hope the move wasn't too much of... More

I was fortunate to stay at this hotel on business. My room was on the 31st floor. As I stepped off the elevator I was mesmerized by the view of The Pier and the water. My room had a beautiful view of the river. My room was spacious. The bathroom had a tub and a separate shower. The finishes were... More

Thank you for your recent stay. We're glad that you enjoyed your room and the view. In our opinion, there is no city in the US with a prettier skyline than Chicago, and we are very fortunate to be located adjacent to the river and Lake Michigan, yet just steps from the Magnificent Mile. Please let us know if you... More

Thursday Friday business meeting. The hotel was very busy with multiple groups. Check in was fairly easy but the room wasn't ready. The front desk person said a Jr Suite was currently available if I would like to upgrade. I asked if my guest status or credit card automatically upgraded me. I was told no because the hotel was sold... More

I went in August 2014 with my family. Although the check-in process took very long as it was crowded, they made up for it with a free upgrade to one of our rooms (we had booked two classic rooms, and they upgraded one to a deluxe corner king room connecting to the other classic room). That's how to deal with... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying with us. You mention all the attractions in walking distance. Since August of 2014, the area has even more to offer - Maggie Daley Park has opened with several kid-friendly activities, and just today 3 more blocks of the Riverwalk have opened. We hope you can return soon to take advantage of our convenient... More

The hotel is beautiful, the views are amazing and the location is great if you want to be in the heart of downtown, but it is over priced. The kids suite package was disappointing. They don't have VIK check-in desk for kids, the toys are used, scribbled in and not all of them were age-appropriate. My daughter loved the pool... More

There are many hotels near this one that are just as good or better. There are excellent views of the city from the higher floors in all directions. I don't like the trend for "modern" hotels to have the checkin desk out in the open with no designation of where to stand, no lines, or ropes. It's confusing and disorienting.... More

I stayed at the Swissotel in Chicago in May. It is Ina great location, next to the river and with view of the lake. The room was very clean and well decorated. Check in was quick and the staff is very friendly. It was walking distance to most of downtown Chicago and great restaurants and shopping.

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
