My first stay at this hotel was in December 2011. When I entered the hotel I was amazed by the lobby. Very impressive. I was greeted at the Hilton Honors desk by an extremely nice person who welcomed me as a member, offered me free internet and a free upgrade to a higher floor. I was surprised by the size... More

I love the old timey historic grandness of this hotel -- but I am here for business and traveled after a nasty bout of food poisoning, and just wanted to grab a bite at the bar and rest in front of the tv in my room. I am a Hilton Honors member and have stayed at a fair number of... More

Did one night at the Palmer House using Priceline - just to take my son to Chicago for a day - I have stayed there many times both for business and pleasure. I have always enjoyed my stays at the Palmer House - each room is different - this one had two queens and an updated (but tiny) bathroom. Valet... More

Best hotel in Chicago!! I've stayed in many modern hotels before, all luxury, but I can't help but love the Palmer House the most. The Hilton Chicago is great as well but so far removed from Everything else. Honestly my best memory from this trip is getting back from a long day of walking and sitting in the lobby with... More

My daughters and I stayed the night at The Palmer House the day before Thanksgiving. I chose this hotel because they were offering a special for honor rewards, close location to Union Station, and fond memories of staying there in my childhood. The great parts of our stay: we got to check in REALLY early, our train arrived early at... More

I stayed here for my second time in a decade as a captive hotel-conference attendee, but found the hotel to have the usual pros of an upscale historic property -- and one located at the heart of Chicago's Loop -- and the usual pros and cons of a big convention hotel. I was placed, for some reason, on a Hilton... More

Spent a long weekend here, as a boys weekend. First time in Chicago, and loved the Palmer House. It took a little time to figure my way around (I did get lost a couple of times, the place is massive). Its old, and quaint, and maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but we loved it. Pay the extra for the... More

Stayed for 5 nights. First night room smelled like cigarette smoke. No wifi for 300 per night? Water temp way too cold for showering. Small bathroom with no walk in shower for that much per night? doormen may or may not open a door. this hotel is running on its nostalgia only Will definitely stay somewhere else next time in... The Palmer House is forever stately and classic. The service is generous in their hospitality detail. The lobby is grand and beautiful. I sat in the bar area with a friend to have a drink and it was charming and cozy. The lines were long at check in which was disappointing because I have Hilton status. The rooms were clean... More

Executive lounge is sort of out of order i guess.. Breakfast croissant is darn delicious. Room is not as small as i imagined. Though my room doesn't have a view == Bathroom is pretty small though. I don't know why Tripadvisor now requires a 200 character minimum so I guess I'll have to keep writing some nonsense such as blah... More

Staying in Downtown / The Loop

Neighborhood Profile
Downtown / The Loop
Often visitors' first stop in Chicago, The Loop is a good starting point to sample the city's energy and flavor. This central business district boasts Michelin-rated restaurants, upscale hotels, premier shopping, and enough arresting architecture to keep your camera busy for hours. You won’t find too many photo galleries of downtown Chicago without a shot of Millennium Park and Cloud Gate (“The Bean”), one of the most iconic landmarks in the city. A stunning skyline coupled with cultural attractions like the Art Institute of Chicago present a Downtown where work and play peacefully coexist.
