Yesterday I was in a restaurant and I was going to order quiche, and then I thought to myself, " it won't be as good as Paul's was". Yes, The Train Inn has ruined me for quiche for the rest of my life! The breakfast was wonderful. The quiche was hot from the oven, not a microwaved piece from the... More

I'm hesitant to write how great this place was because some one is bound to stay there on some day I might want to! It was simply outstanding. The accommodations were great. The food spectacular and the hosts the best ever. If you find you need to be in Southern Illinois for any reason stay at the Train Inn. You'll... More

We were looking for a unique place to stay while we explored Shawnee National Forest for the first time. The Train Inn is a cozy treasure, like a little oasis in the desert. Arriving on a hot afternoon, we approached the inn through a lovely, shaded and landscaped yard with a picturesque garden part of the ambience. The inviting shaded... More

A really lovely B&B, with tasteful furnishings and the beautiful hardwoods of an historic old house gorgeously renovated with exquisite taste by the owners. The downstairs rooms are small (my beautiful room was almost filled by the bed) but very comfortable and immaculately clean. Very comfortable bed -- and I'm picky about that -- and new modern bathroom facilities (shower... More

I seldom give Excellent but this is it. My wife and I rented the cottage for a week for $600. This is a separate structure with 3 bedrooms which with the queen and king size beds are a bit small but very comfortable. We had a full bathroom (with spacious shower), living room and fully equipped, separate kitchen. The property... More

A really pleasant overnight enjoyed on route from New Orleans. The proprietor could not have been more hospitable and engaging. Excellent breakfast and lovely conversations. Garden grown foods. Comfortable and spacious room. Great environs. Don't miss - highly recommended.

This little gem is an oasis behind the SIU Rec Center, a very convenient location for trips to the SIU campus. My husband and I stayed two nights in July while visiting our son. The building is cozy, comfortable and its historic elements beautifully preserved. Paul and Teresa cooked wonderful breakfasts for us and we enjoyed far-ranging conversations with them.... More

Arriving on a late train, Paul greeted me, by name, at the front door and showed me my cozy bedroom adjacent to the front room. Before turning in, I read in the front room taking in the wood grains and solitude of this solid framed home. I slept very deep on a comfortable country bed in a darkened room with... More

What a great place to stay. We felt so at home here. Paul and Teresa were great, and the food was to die for. You will not leave hungry! Our room was comfortable, spacious, well appointed and just perfect. If youask Paul for recommendations on places to go, see, eat, etc., definitely follow his recommendations. We had a great time...
