Cabanas San Isidro is an amazing place for birdwatching. As that was my aim, the review is written from that viewpoint. The lodge is situated among a large tract of land owned by them with good trails on them. The diversity of birds in this area is outstanding. They have 2 sets of hummingbird feeders, one right at the hotel... More

We only had a couple of nights before a working assignment in Quito, but had a great time. Stayed here to find/photograph birds and got great shots of some tricky species, like Green-and-Black Fruiteater, plus some more common but still stunning birds like Chestnut-Breasted Coronet and Violet-tailed Sylph. Mitch and Carmen are terrific people who were great to get to know.The... More

I have been going to this place for many years and it is a favorite for me in the Andes of Ecuador. Unpretentious. Gracious host (Alejandro and Carmen are both very welcoming), my favorite food in Ecuador, extraordinary views, breakfast always when you want it. And all of this while protecting a vast area of forest. Thanks always--

We stayed at Cabana San Isidro the end of January 2015. We had room #1, a HUGE beautiful room with a balcony. I was told that the owner, Carmen, is/was a chef? That would explain why the food was soooooooooooooo good. The soups, the salsas, everything. Seriously, the food was really great. We had an amazingly good bird guide too,... More

This is a place one stays to have easy access to a very good group of Ecuador birds. Alejandro was great, treating us really well and accommodating our vegetarian and vegan needs. Pablo was a very hard-working and competent bird guide, The game room was fun, and the grounds are well-tended. This would never be mistaken for a luxury lodge,... More

I spent 3 days/2 nights here in October with a group of 8 Birders. The accommodations are excellent, the food is wonderful and the birds are fantastic! The rooms are conveniently located with a central meeting room that is great for making bird lists and enjoying a self-hosted happy hour. There are several bird watching areas set up for your... San Isidro is high in the cloud forest and maybe a little cooler than you might expect, layers are good. light fleece would be better. Not to worry about the comfort of your room..hot water bottles are provided every night. It isn't freezing, just a damp chilly. The meals here are amazing and Alejandro is a great host with a... We went to Cabanas San Isidro just for the day. The deck at the restaurant is beautiful with a breath taking view over the cloud forest. From there you can see a lot of hummingbirds flying around. The owners, Carmen and Mitch gave us a warm welcome. Carmen, who is a professional chef, prepared lunch with local ingredients. It was... More

My husband and I spent 3 lovely days at these cabanas. Each cabin is roomy and full of light, clean and cozy. All wood inside, big comfy bed, in-room coffee. Each cabin has a small deck that looks out on the cloud forest. The grounds are very well maintained with wide paths to walk to various buildings. The dining room... More
