PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS REVIEW IF YOU ARE THINKING OF HAVING A WEDDING OR ANY EVENT HERE. It looks like a nice place from afar, like a Monet painting. However upon closer review, it's dizzy, disorganized array of mismanagement and lack of professionalism. Not worthy of the 3 stars it has. The rooms- need to be kept up better.... More

Coalson Plantation... What a shame to see a beautiful plantation go down the toilet. While the rooms and grounds were beautiful and the food is a definite improvement from the last chef, there is a major problem with the Senior staff. Perhaps if the owners could afford a proper manager instead of a former beautician to manage the hotel, then... More

The grounds and room were wonderful. Staff was friendly but for a smoke free facility, outside smoke was common. We would gladly return again except for the food. The quail was tough and dry. The seasoning in the mashed potatoes made them inedible. The breakfast Sunday morning served up cool scrambled eggs and obviously instant grits (still crunchy). Too bad... More

The grounds of the Plantation were absolutely breath taking! My husband and I were greeted by a friendly hostess and a glass of wine in the lounge area. Once we were seated the wait staff was extremely courteous and the food was amazing. We were also provided a free tour of the grounds after dinner. Southern hospitality at its finest!!

My husband and I have just returned from a Saturday night stay at Coalson Plantation, formaly Melhana Plantation. We arrived at 4:45 Saturday afternoon. After guessing at where we should park, we found our way to the main house. We stood in the hall way for at least five minutes watching a lady through the open kitchen door. Most likely... More

Terrible is the lowest I could give Melhana/Coalson and it deserves it as far as service is concerned. We planned our wedding there beginning in December of 2006 only to have to cancel our plans at the end of March. The price quoted from the beginning had tripled and all we heard from anyone else regarding weddings was negative. When... More

I took my significant other there for his birthday. We stayed overnight at the Inn and had dinner in the restaurant. I chose Coalson Plantation (formerly known as Melhana) because of its stellar reputation for special occassions. I knew going in that the plantation has recently undergone a downgrade from a "five star" establishment to a "4 star," but was... More

This historic site is under new management and has a ways to go to be stellar again, if ever. The robes had holes in them, the outbuildings were in need of quite a bit of cosmetics and repair. There was an obvious smell of sewage gas at the main house's entrance. The 'heated' pool was freezing and the showers in... More

My husband and I went to dinner at Melhana to celebrate our anniversary. We ordered a bottle of wine, not specifying the label (foolishly). Instead of asking for our choice, the server took it upon herself to select the highest priced bottle on the list. We didn't realize this until the check came, and the wine was long gone. We... Just returned from a brief visit to Melhana after a driving vacation through the old south staying at several plantations. Discovered Melhana by accident but it was absolutely the most enjoyable stop on our trip. Our stay was not perfect, however, this was at one time a top notch 5-star bed and breakfast resort. It is currently far along on... More
