Bill Jones, the owner of the Sea Island Co. made a big mistake tearing down the old Cloister buildings and went bankrupt in the process. They say "he chased away the millionaires in search of the billionaires, but the billionaires did not come." If you have 400 to 800 to spend on a room at a resort, go somewhere where... More

The Cloister on Sea Island, Georgia is a hidden gem! The resort is absolutely gorgeous, an upscale property which is conveniently located between Savannah, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida. My husband and I as well as our son and his family all stayed at The Beach Club which is very kid friendly. Our 2 year old granddaughter had a blast and... More

An unbelievable long weekend at the BC - The suite was unbelievable - the service top notch - outstanding food! This will be an annual trip for us. Spa and fitness center very nice and well equipped. Probably the nicest resort on the Southeastern coast!

Amazing. Words are not adequate to describe the experience of The Cloister. It's not a vacation location, it is truly a destination. Driving onto the island is surreal. It is like leaving the burden of life and going into another world. The employees remember your name, the cater to ever whim. Costly yes, Priceless, Definetly. The Georgian is worth the... More

Let me start by saying I always READ tripadvisor reviews but never post anything. However, while on vacation at The Cloister recently I met a nice man who WORKS for tripadvisor and he inspired me to write a review and "give back". We were supposed to spend the week at the Boca Raton Beach Club where we have been before,... More

Let's begin by stating what this is not: Do not come to the Cloisters if you desire something other than a Country Club experience priced at the very high end of resort costs. After all, this resort was, until recently, a private club that now invites discerning travelers to experience the same opportunities afforded it's members. So, it should come... More

The Cloister provides a "visit to the past". I originally went to the Cloister in the early 1980's. Guests wore formal wear to every meal. In the 1990's my husband and I went for an Easter vacation. During this trip we watched ball room dancing and a cocktail hour reminiscent of the 50s. Many southerners have included this resort in... More

Thank you so much for your gracious comments. It’s especially good to know that you returned for another visit. As you observed, in keeping with the desires of today’s visitors, formal attire is no longer required for dinner. We do, however, continue to celebrate traditions of the past that guests find endearing, such as Bingo in the Ballroom and Gold... More

My wife and I went on a golf vacation to Sea Island in June, 2012. We stayed in the Cloister. The room was large and beautiful with a great view of the Seaside course. The Sea Island related books in the room were so interesting that I never got to my planned reading. We played golf on the Plantation and... More

The Cloister is really an incredible facility! Beautiful architecture, fantastic rooms and a beautiful setting. One of the most beautiful resorts I've been to. Unfortunately, some things just did not meet my expectations: We stayed in the North wing the second week of August. The passageways were not really clean when we arrived, and they were not cleaned for the... More

We had the BEST time here. Can not wait to go back. The Beach club is one of our all time favorite places and we have stayed at very nice resorts.
