This is a stunning hotel build in a very exclusive place close to the lake, beside an amazing waterfalls and beautiful gardens. The rooms, food and services are first class. Staff are very professional and helpful. It is indeed a special place to spend quality time. We highly recommend to those who appreciate excellence!

Beautiful old hotel that has been saved from demolition and lovingly restored. Location is especially beautiful and reason enough to plan to visit for a couple of days. Be sure to arrive by ferry and take the funicular up to the hotel. Rooms and public spaces feel like you have traveled back in time and yet the rooms are spacious... More

This is a beautiful hotel. Everything is decorated as if you were in a different era. The hallways are dimly lit and they have a little bit of a creepy feel. On the other hand, this was quite fun in some ways. The light would bounce off of things in that old time movie way - especially since it was... More

Whilst visiting the nearby falls we paid a visit to the hotel and were very impressed by the friendly welcome we received. Not being paid residents we were given access to public rooms which we explored at our leisure. The staff could not have been more helpful providing a guide to its history. The decor was amazing and the views... More

I had the opportunity to stay a long weekend for a retreat from city-life and thoroughly enjoyed it. The setting at Giessbach is gorgeous, picturesque, and fully connected with nature. The location in and of itself was a huge factor as to why I chose this hotel. The waterfall was spectacular, and I loved all the hiking trails around the... More

Wonderful place to stay for a romantic get away. We had a lovely stay for 3 days - room was large and nice (we had a "romantic" room with a view to the waterfront; paid some extra and the view was worth it, BUT since it was very warm, we wanted to sleep windows open, and that is not possible... We stayed for two nights in July. I had booked a falls view with balcony which we got. Old building, no mods cons here. The falls were right outside our windows and quite loud. Large rooms and good restaurants although expensive. Arriving by car is not expected, the car park is not very big, quite a way from reception and... More

Lovely building - arriving by public transport is great - in Switzerland, arrive by boat (if you time it right, by paddle steamer "Lötschberg") and take the hotels furnicular up to its location above lake Brienz. We had a lovely (and large) room with a view out toward the turquoise Lake Brienz on the right and the Giessbach falls coming... More

The Grand Hotel Giessbach is a unique historic hotel in a unique setting, just facing the 500m long waterfall called "Giessbachfälle". I had booked a room facing the waterfall and fell asleep while watching the water cascading down. I rated the hotel as "quiet", though the waterfall is pretty loud, but then... this is pure nature. The hotel provides an... More

Reading some of the old reviews here, it seems clear that the hotel has worked hard at improving the service and general attention to detail. We were there on a July weekend and while there certainly were a lot of day trippers, we didn't feel neglected as hotel guests. It is a truly historic hotel in a unique location and... More
