If you're going, you have to go by boat and funicular - the car just won't cut it in my opinion! From the approach by boat, underneath the incredible waterfall, to the belle epoch landing stage and incredible private funicular, the arrival in itself is an incredible experience for kids and grown ups alike. I was slightly afraid of bringing... More

We have stayed at the Grand Hotel Giessbach several times, the last time in 2012. It has got even better than it was, especially the breakfast. The last time we were there we were impressed to have a written note from the manager saying how pleased he was that we were staying there again. The lady in charge at reception... More

I stayed at the Grandhotel Giessbach and I have to say it was a mesmerising experience. The views are spectacular. We arrived via Boat and then Funicular. It is a WOW experience, no words can describe the experience. The weather was little overcast when we arrived, but the next day, was just breathtaking. The hotel, its backdrop, the waterfall and... Restored historic hotel from the golden age of tourism and grand hotels in the Swiss alps. The location is remote, towering on a ridge over Lake Brienz, next to the scenic Giessbach falls. Because of the isolated/remote location, the illusion of being at the turn of the century is almost believable, specially when arriving in style with the historic steamer... More

Wow - almost came to tears as we drove around the bend up this very windy road and set our eyes on this amazing place! It is not done justice on their website or internet - but trust me you will not be disappointed. There is a funicular down to the lake and I think arriving by boat must be... More

The view from our room was breathtaking, we could see both the cascade and the lake. Even in the cold weather the place is amazing. The service very friendly and our stay - anniversary - wonderful. It might not be the place to go if you are looking for ultra modern stay, with all comforts. I quite enjoy this style

WE spent a few days in this hidden gem: wonderful location, great views, super with dog, incredible pool!! Great breakfast and dinner! The rooms are very romantic, but dark - as the whole building is somewhat dark and mystic. Unfortunately the staff is a little slow and unexperienced, but friendly.

This hotel is so sweet, the view is absolutely marvellous! We were there for a wedding of my friend in room 205 with a little balcony which opened up directly opposite the waterfall! The noise, as great as it was, was very soothing to the ears and it's an incredible feeling to sleep with the sound of the waterfall cascading... More

The Grandhotel Giessbach is a Swiss Victorian confection built on a mountainside overlooking Lake Brienz in a park like setting of hundreds of acres containing paths for hiking, a waterfall and a funicular from hotel to lakeside where steamers ply the waters to Interlaken. Carefully restored in the recent past, the hotel is supported by a number of Swiss environmental... More

You form your opinion of a hotel when you drive up. Location here is perfect with an emerald lake on one side and a magnificent waterfall on the other.
