My third visit to Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island, and like the old saying goes, you cannot go back because it will not be as you remembered. Greyfield is a lovely B&B with all the antiquity charm of days gone by but truly this charm should be left behind. The house is old and cold, with dim lighting. The bedrooms... More

We took the day trip they offer from Amelia Island. The hotel provides ferry service to Cumberland Island, and then provides a tour of the historic property, lunch, bikes, fishing gear, kayaks, refreshments, etc. The whole experience was wonderful. Very friendly staff, delicious picnic lunch made to order to our dietary needs and preferences, in an old-fashioned picnic basket, all... More

Our family stayed in the little cottage, forestalling any issues with shared bathrooms, shared walls, and 3rd floor walk-ups, etc. Presumably better plumbing too (but not great; this is a remote island after all). The cottage was simple but charming. We loved the old inn and its decor. The basement kitchen where you picked up your picnic lunch was actually... More

My wife surprised me with a two night stay at this fabulous inn for my birthday. The Inn is a historic home built by the Carnegie family and now run by descendants as a hotel on an island that is now 95% National Seashore/Park managed by the Park Service (and very well given their budgetary constraints). The Inn is full... More

I was given the wonderful gift of a 3 day trip to the Greyfield Inn for Thanksgiving and my birthday. We joined another couple in the little cottage, and had one of the most pleasant travel experiences I have encountered. Treated well by a very friendly staff, everyone we met from porters to the owner and his wife, were warm... More

Greyfield is a very special place which my family has had the opportunity to turn into a tradition. This was the 6th Thanksgiving we have spent there and I am grateful for the opportunity. The inn is in beautiful shape, with subtle improvements made over the year and an excellent staff. With the destruction of historic sites every day, and... More

We had always wanted to stay at the legendary Greyfield Inn and finally we did. We were the only passengers on the boat from Fernandina and the young, friendly crew met us at the dock and took our bags on board. On arrival a young hostess gave us a short tour of the inn and explained the meals, the "Honest... More

I have been to about every historic hotel on the east coast. Greyfield Inn is the tops for many reasons but the one that stands out is the home like atmosphere. Of course you can stay at luxury inns as I have and you pay for that luxury and that is the key. At luxury hotels your expectation is to... More

We have a home on Amelia Island and have been to every restaurant on the Island numerous times. This was a special occasion and we wanted something different. A little known secret is that you can book reservations at the Greyfield Inn for dinner. As you have read, it is a very special place and $600 a night with a... More

This is actually a tough review to write for reasons I'll get into later. But first, the easy stuff. I booked into the Greyfield in 1999 for a couple of nights and my memory of that visit is that the "pitch" was similar to the current one, but it really didn't deliver - the food was mediocre, the Inn rooms...
