Built in 1873 by the manager of the largest cotton mill in the South, the original owner and family lived here 63 years; then the Knights of Columbus were housed here for 60 years. Carolyn and Tom Gates, the 4th owners, have lovingly restored this historic home. Carolyn Gates’ impeccable taste, innate sense of style and flare for design is... more

We spent an evening with Georgia in the beautiful Gates House. Our room (#4) was very spacious with plentiful sunlight and antique decor. I recognized several pieces from the exquisitely decorated home as the same type found in my grandmother's house. The bed was very comfortable (firm mattress lovers might want to try a different room), cable tv (although small)... more

I am not a frequent or experienced traveler, but I know good service and cleanliness when I encounter it. Both are what I found at The Gates House Bed & Breakfast. We traveled to Columbus primarily to attend our son’s Basic Training Graduation at Fort Benning. Since we were traveling 2,000 miles we decided also to make it a real... more

We were initially going to stay at a Hampton Inn (personal favorite). However, since we really were going to Columbus for the downtown historical section staying closer in made more sense. I chose the Gates after reviewing TripAdvisor and though it rated a little lower the prices were better. I reserved a room online and received a confirmation email. There... more

My husband and I have just returned from a short honeymoon to Columbus where we spent 2 nights at the Gates House B&B. The entire stay was perfect. Our check-in went smoothly and we were given some tips on what to do and where to eat in Columbus. We had booked the Versailles Room and it turned out to be... more

I'll keep this short and sweet-we reserved it on a Friday, checked in with no problems on Saturday...pretty much left alone (which is a good thing in my opinion), the room was just like the website showed. Nice and homelike....We stayed up in the Nest, the jacuzzi was great! It did say that the room was the only one up... more

I made reservations for the premier room at the Gates House over a month in advance. Upon arrival, a very nice young woman (whose name I will not publish here) showed us to our room. Just one problem, it wasn't the room I reserved. Apparently Mr. and Mrs. Gates were having repairs done (or something) at their private residence nearby... more

Beautiful small b&b on a cobblestone, tree-lined, quet street right in downtown Columbus, near the river. Rooms are beautifully appointed, bathrooms are spacious, and common areas are welcoming. Breakfast was lots of fun with the cheerful cooks. It reminded us of a Hawaiian colonial house, right down to the bouganvillas. more
