My wife and I booked a "stress relieving" week at Black Bear after Hurricane Irma ripped apart our beautiful city in Florida this September. We have stayed at Wilderness View Cabins several times before, always enjoying their properties and good customer service. We usually stay in smaller economical cabins, but wanted a larger spectacular cabin, portrayed in Black Bear, to unwind the from the stress of the hurricane. But it wasn't! From the minute we stepped into the cabin we knew this wasn't the Wilderness View company from before. We entered the cabin from the downstairs upon arrival. The smell of mold and mildew was overwhelming. There was de-humidifier on full blast, no doubt trying to manage the problem. It reached capacity by the time we transferred our groceries to the fridge, shutting-off, never removing the terrible odor. Exhausted from a 10 hour drive, we decided to stay the night and start fresh in the morning. When we awoke, we made our rounds throughout the property. Neglect is all I can say. The back deck was weathered, dirty and needed paint. The back door door knob fell off. A lack of furniture was evident throughout the cabin but tolerable; but the ripped couch hidden under blankets was unacceptable. The cabin itself was dark and gloomy. The linoleum floors (yes linoleum!) creaked really really bad. The bathtub was dirty. The hot tub smelled. The grill was filthy and had no cleaning tool. A nice touch we thought were a couple of complimentary marshmallows and chocolate candy bars left by Wilderness View for S'mores--that was until we unwrapped the candy bars and saw they were once melted, squished and then reformed. Despite the disappointments and conditions, we did chose to stay and not take on the hassle of finding other accommodations -- we're used to camping and roughing it. Later that night we had a campfire which was great even with the melted candy bars. But whoops another failure! The lawn chair I was sitting in fell apart. Whoops! The dishwasher wouldn't drain. Whoops! The bathroom sink started to leak. Whoops! Whoops! Whoops! You have to laugh a little when you get a lemon like this. And so we did, poking fun at all the neglected items at Black Bear had during our stay. Maybe it was part of a greater plan to help us recover from the hurricane? In summary, I wouldn't recommend a stay at Black Bear...neglect, dark and gloomy and the linoleum floors are enough to keep us away. I will not be using Wilderness View Cabins again for a fourth time either. It's obvious their living off the reputation created by the previous owner, which later we found out the company did change hands.

We've stayed here multiple times and it's such a relaxing environment. Music greets you as you step inside. A wonderful cabin-feel. My 2 cons: driving can be a bit treacherous if you go in the winter time (gravelly sloped roads) and lots of insects in the summer time (not a bug person!) Other than that, it's fantastic. My hubby loves it most of all- great break from work. We took parents, kids, and even our dog- the big cabins have enough room for multiple families.

I have stayed here twice, in two different cabins - The Raccoon Lodge and Shanty Creek. Both cabins were just for me and my husband for weekend getaways. I loved both of them! The Raccoon Lodge was bigger and had the upper loft area with the pool table which was a lot of fun. But Shanty Creek was big enough for what we wanted, too! We will absolutely continue to return to wilderness view!

The wife and I stayed in the Shanty Creek cabin this past week. We have been coming to the Wilderness View Cabins for many years. It should be noted that not all the cabins are available for rental now as they once were. The original owners Robert and Liz sold and have moved on. Shanty Creek is the perfect place for a couple to stay. There is a king size bed in the loft that is quite comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with most anything you would need to make a meal. There is a BBQ grill on the deck that will take care of whatever you may wish to grill. There is a nice hot tub on the covered porch that we used several times. In addition to the nice fireplace there is a fire pit in the rear yard area. We love Shanty Creek and recommend it. The slip proof treads on the steps are wonderful as on more than one occasion in the past I slipped and fell on my butt. There is a small flat screen tv with satellite service replacing the tiny tube tv that used to be here. The hot tub is showing its age but does work. The kitchen could use some additional plates, silverware, pots and pans but does pass for what you need most. The access road could use work but is navigable as long as you go slow and take it easy. The providing of the gate and door code a few days prior to arrival works great. In short if you're looking for a cabin experience in the north Georgia mountains give one of the cabins a try I truly think that you will enjoy your time. Last year we stayed at another cabin not on the wilderness view property and found it not nearly as enjoyable as wilderness view. It was quite nice it just did not give a 'mountain' cabin experience.

Great place to stay and hangout with friends or family. Lots of space to gather and enjoy the mountain view. Just know you will be driving on some steep curvy roads. Well worth it and most felt like they could compete in some road races after the stay.

We rented a cabin through Wilderness View Cabins for the Christmas week. Our plans for the holiday period changed at the last minute and this company worked with us to get into a cabin with very little notice. The cabin we rented was fairly worn to say the least and without the help of Sharon and Kellie, we would probably have left. They did everything they could to ensure our stay was acceptable and tried to make it as comfortable as possible. We have given feedback on the cabin we stayed in recommending the owner put in a little TLC to get it to the state of other rentals or update the pictures to reflect what you truly are getting. We rent based off of reviews and pictures and expect the pictures to be true to life. When we return to this area, we will use WIlderness View Cabins as they are easy to work with and the most responsive rental agency we have ever used. Thank you Sharon and Kellie for saving our Christmas vacation!!

This was our 4th stay with Wilderness View. We always enjoy the spacious cabins, secluded with privacy and of course, the hot tubs on the big deck. Its so much fun to just slow down and enjoy the Beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains from the Porch. I absolutely love this place. I've stayed in Cliffhanger, Bear Dancer, Shanty Creek, and Raccoon Lodge. Rob and Liz were always so nice; our last visit we didn't meet anyone but the agent that help me (didn't get her name) was very nice and helpful as well. I will definitely be back.

We loved it! We've stayed at other cabin rentals and it felt like being in a neighbor hood with paved drives and house next to each other. The road to our cabin was graveled and steep but felt like you were going to cabin which made it part of the adventure. We had no problem driving our mid-size sedan in or out from our cabin. Views were great, wild life all around and peace and quite like a mountain cabin should be. When we retire, we would like to find a place like this to retire.
