Campground was very clean as well as the bath houses. The thing we like most is the quiet. It was warm so most people were either on the beaches or inside their camper so while we stayed in our screened tent outside it was so nice and quiet. Although we could have been inside in the A/C we prefer to stay out with a fan. Biking was so enjoyable as well. Haven't had a vacation this nice in a long time. Although it was a drive to town, we go to relax and not "play" so it didn't bother us at all. Had some issue with Red Tide but nothing too drastic so we still enjoyed the beach tremendously. ONLY down was the dump site in shady pines was not accessible via car so we had to drive to the main dump site as the portable dump was too heavy to take by hand. Didn't think the beach walk was that far although we did prepare with beach cart due to the reviews on here. Overall great place to stay!…

Sad ... Beautiful beaches littered with dead fish from Red Tide, and the associated nasty smell. Stayed one night and moved on to St George where beached were still in great shape. If dead fish and smells don't bother you, St Pete is a great camping spot with great facilities.

Although we rented a beach house with direct beach access, we decided to explore St. Joseph Peninsula State Park. The beach was beautiful, and not crowded at all. Great place for a few family photos! It cost $6.00 per vehicle to get into the park, so make certain you have some cash for the entry fee.

My fiance and I go on a camping trip every year for the fourth, and this year we camped at T.H. Stone. We stayed for a week and really enjoyed this campground. The location to the beaches (both bay and gulf) was great. It was super nice going out there gulf side on the 4th and not being surrounded by crowds! The water was absolutely amazing. So clear and calm. The bathrooms around our site was incredibly clean. Actually one of the cleanest I've ever experienced while camping! The sites are very shady, and the roads in the campground are incredibly narrow so be careful at night (it's insanely dark). We went as round and scoped out other campsite locations, but honestly, we had the best one. I'm pretty sure we were the only site with a view. So, if you're going, I'd reccomend site 108. Close to the bathrooms, awesome view, and abundance of wildlife. The park ranger told us that there are a lot of raccoons that do come around that site, so be aware of that and pack up your food! We definitely saw and heard them just about every night of the trip. The field (or beach) mice, armadillos and birds were super prevalent around us, and we even had a turtle we named Edgar come around a few times during our stay. Only saw one snake, and it was hiding out under our firewood. The highlight for me was looking up at the stars. They were so incredibly beautiful that went to the beach one night and just looked up. I would definitely recommend you do the same. All in all, we enjoyed our trip, and our site was definitely worth it completely. …

I am sorry to say, Shady Pines campground may soon need to change its' name. I don't know what is going on, with the weather, the park management, but something is causing a serious reduction in the number of trees and vegetation in general. Our site had ZERO shade from sunrise until almost sunset, and we could see clearly into all of the other campsites. The only vegetation was either super-tall pines or very short plants, a lot of which was poison sumac. Hardy any medium-size trees remain, or even vines. I hope someone makes some kind of serious emergency effort to renew and then continue the shade of the former Shady Pines. This was our 9th camping trip to this state park, and our 8th time in the Shady Pines. Our last trip was in 2015 and it was so much more shady. We will absolutely be back, but not when it is so necessary to have some shade during the hot part of the year.…

We camped here for a week and enjoyed the glorious beach. The public has three beaches, and the campground has its own stretch of beautiful sandy beach. There is no lifeguard though. The water was warm enough to swim (I'm used to swimming in CT in the summer where the water never warms up much). And the waves were strong enough that I did not feel safe to swim. I had no idea where a rip tide could be lurking, so enjoyed just walking in the water up to my knees, and sitting reading on the beach or collecting shells. Peaceful and lovely. My hubby tried ocean fishing for the first time, but didn't catch anything. Others did make catches other days. Would stay here again. The only problem encountered was the one restroom/shower that is the only one currently with air conditioning. It was so hot in there, after showering, it felt like I needed another shower. After 2 days I reported it to the ranger station and they had someone working on it immediately. Was still not working great, but was better than the first two days. …

Disclaimer: we did not camp nor stay in the cabins here (which, as noted by another reviewer, are on the bay side, not the Gulf side). What I could see in peeking into a cabin looked good if somewhat rustic; there was an outdoor grill and a nice path to the bay though no beach; they have screened in porches and are well-spaced. The beaches and hiking on the trails are definitely the attractions: the beach is stunning and was almost deserted when we looked around. Also, the ranger directed us to a trail where we could view a bald eagle nest - you'll need binoculars and a good zoom lens to get a decent picture, but it was still fun to see the two white heads bobbing around way up there. You don't have to camp here nor stay in a cabin to enjoy this quiet beach and park.

We love this state park for swimming and camping. The bathrooms were much improved from our last visit. But, one of members of our group was seriously injured with a knee/ leg injury from falling on a non wood boardwalk going from the beach to the campground. The injury was reported to staff who did not care or document the injury. Luckily, an ambulance was not needed because phones do not work. Another, member of our group was almost injured because because a group of fisherman left a active line in the water and on the beach. We will be returning to the area but never to this state park again.

We camped here the week of September 17. This place us a tropical island. Beautiful white sand beach with massive sand dunes. Lots of wildlife, just watch for snakes like Water Moccasins, we seen 2. There are signs that say there are alligators too. But, it's absolutely amazing.

Was not sure what to expect. I knew I was not getting a 3-star or higher and was ok with that bc we got our own cabin, with kitchen and 3 beds for $100; so it was a pretty good price. It was not as clean as I would have liked. Mold in the bathtub grout, a dead roach in the cabinets. The beds were awful, they had a plastic wrap around the mattress which made it so hot. AC was good and cool. We went in the beginning of July and the mosquitoes were the worst. I'm talking Amazon jungle mosquitoes. Was disappointed the cabin was on the bay side, the water was stagnant. We hiked over several sand dunes (which was really hard work!) to make it to the beautiful beach on the other side. I probably would not go back if given the choice. The drive to get there from my house was really long and did not feel like it was worth it. …
