I stayed most of a week at El Governor, and can reconfirm that I really like this hotel. It is a basic, no frills kind of place, but inexpensive, clean, and comfortable with great views of the gulf. The rooms are large with good sized bathrooms and tubs. I used the in-room kitchen extensively, and found everything worked well. There... More

Been to El Governor several times. The rooms are just average but has a small kitchenette for extended stays. Nice cocktail bar and can't beat being right on the beach! Several restaurants within walking distance. There is no complementary breakfast.

Stayed here for 4 nights last Feb and loved it! All the rooms overlook the gulf and have balconies. Kitchennete in the room, outside door, large elevator, on the beach, old Florida feel, quiet, just what I wanted. Only bad part was poor Wi-Fi and cable. We were facing driving back north through ice storms and couldn't get information. May... More

This is an old, but well maintained hotel right on the gulf. All of the rooms have balconies, and you feel like you are looking out a porthole the water is so close. The rooms have an oven, sink, refrigerator, and microwave, as well as some pans, dishes, and silverware, so it is easy to eat in the room. The... More

A little outdated, but a GREAT location! Right on the sand--and the waves were roaring! Also, the rooms have balconies---rates were reasonable---room did have a refrigerator and microwave----I would definitely stay here again---I stayed on the third floor---which was perfect---I asked for, and got, a non-adjoining room---

The Pine-Sol cleanser smell almost knocked us for a loop when we first opened the door. We had to air it out by opening the front and back door to be able to breath. Other than that it's a funky old place to stay, very clean, very old Florida vibe. Great location, nice staff, clean pool, good price. Bed was... More

Okay to spend one night when there isn't anything else. Limited if any amenities. Clean room with gorgeous view if the gulf. Right on the water. King room with oversized refrigerator, microwave, table and two chairs. Bare floor no carpet. Small closet, two sinks, one outside of bathroom. Water worked, AC working and TV with free WiFi. Big concern was... More

My husband and I stayed here when he went to participate in a race on Mexico Beach. Staff was friendly on the phone when I called. Then, staff at front desk was polite and helpful when we arrived. The rooms are not the most modern but very clean and have great views of the Gulf. We got a kick out... More

I have been traveling from North Alabama to Mexico Beach to stay at El Governor for over 35 years. All the front desk clerks, the manager, the gift shop clerk, and the security and grounds people are considerate and kind and always want to be of any assistance they can. El Governor is in a prime location along the Florida... More

I have always been a big fan of the El Governor. We recently stayed the weekend for my birthday. It was terrible! The rooms have not been kept up, there are holes in the walls, etc. When we first checked in, I was told we could stop by the lobby in the morning for towels for the pool. When we... More
