Came here for Christmas dinner. First of all the staff were all great. The Christmas dinner however was disappointing, the turkey tasted like it was from tesco deli counter, it was stone cold, no roast potatoes on some of the meals, the advertised fruit basket was a bowl of bananas and plumbs brought to the table where we had to... the worst part was travelling down with shearings seems to take hours to get to your destination which is a shame. The hotel itself is dated and is in the middle of no where there are no shops nearby and difficult to go for a walk as near busy roads. but you could see evidence of them trying to update the... Thankyou for your honest comments, You'll be pleased to know that there is currently a massive investment being ploughed into our Hotel and Spa. We have just completed full refurbishment of 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. By early 2016 we will have had another 16 rooms completed. Our aim here is to combine modern design and functionality and yet still... More

We always have a ground floor room as there is no lift and the stairs are very steep. Our next visit will be New Year for the second time. We come here twice a year, we enjoy the atmosphere plus there is a swimming pool and gym. The menu is always varied and we certainly enjoy our food. I see... More

The food was so bad it was disgusting.. I ordered the chicken liver parfait and can only describe it as some breadcrumbs with a sprinkling of liver flakes. The turkey dinner consisted of two slices of turkey boiled watery potatoes two roast potatoes roasted two days previously raw carrots, uncooked frozen Brussels sprouts, stuffing that looked like slime and for... We have just returned from the Eden Arms and enjoyed the 5 days spent there. The rooms were bigger than some Shearings Bay hotels and had everything you would need in them, although they could have been a little less dusty in places. The food was a little under par in comparison to other Bay hotels but it was acceptable.... More

Travelled to this hotel with national holidays for a three night break to Beamish Newcastle and Gateshead. On arrival we were allocated room 33 on the second floor. Very good sized room and bathroom ,BUT so noisy , the noise seemed to be coming from a hatch in the ceiling and sounded like a central heating boiler and because of... More

Just returned from a short break with Shearings holidays. As usual it was excellent value for money. I had a single room which was ok but there were problems. One of the walls looked rather damp and the room was in fact quite cold even though the temperature outside wasn't too bad fr the time of year. They obviously have... More

We had a brilliant room - roomy, comfortable bed, very clean. The only drawback was the shower was a bit slow compared to the one at home but it did the job so can't be fairer than that. The staff are brilliant - very friendly and efficient. The spa was great and the swimming pool quite good. A bit small... More
