We booked a 4 night holiday with Shearings to go to Durham and Beamish. We stayed at the Shearings Hotel - Eden Arms at Rushyford. This was quite an old hotel but reasonably comfortable. Our bedroom had everything we needed apart from shampoo, shower gel and other little pots that most hotels give so if you do stay there anytime... More

Tired hotel needing considerable refurbishment to the rooms. An old coaching inn, the main building has a very narrow access corridor to rooms. The shower, while in an adequate bathroom, was impossible to regulate for temperature, cold or scalding were the options. The bathroom door could not be closed without waking the other guests. Cooked food was dreadful, I know... More

Had a three night weekend break from 18th to 21st July and this hotel disappointed in several aspects. After we checked in the receptionist advised there was no entertainment on the Sunday night. This is our first Shearings break where entertainment was not provided every night. And as the hotel is isolated there is no nearby alternative venues - your... More

Arrived at Eden Arms, 1hour before check in. Went for a coffee in the bar. We had pre booked our room, no 11. It was very pleasant, clean, well furnished, a flat screen tv. The room also had white fluffy towels.j After settling in, we viewed the facilities. A well appointed gym, pool, spa, steam room and Sauna. Very welcome... More

I have no complaints about my stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. My room was small but adequate, the en suite was fresh and clean and had both a bath and shower. The dining room was bright and roomy with plenty of room between the tables. There was a good variety... More

We booked a midweek break and arrived at 2pm and had to wait an hour for our room , fare enough I thought until we were checking out and the maids were waiting to get into our room at 9 pm. The staff were lovely but massively overstreached especially in the dining room. The food was ok. The location was... More

For the money this place is OK. Decent size room, very clean, bed comfy, bathroom good, good parking, staff very friendly and helpful. Food was poor on our first night, but got better and was acceptable without being outstanding. Has strange layout .. two bars but only one operates at a time and it's a long stroll to get a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Eden Arms Hotel is another one of our great character hotels. The building dates back to the 17th-century when it was a coaching inn. Many of our guests use the hotel as a base to explore the city of Durham and the picturesque countryside around. The location, just eight miles from the historic city centre, is the ideal place to relax and unwind for both leisure and business travellers alike. For those who are keen to explore further afield, the city of Newcastle with its regenerated riverfront and great shopping and hospitality is within easy driving distance. The Eden Arms offers comfortable accommodation and also boasts a leisure club featuring a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa. It is also a popular venue for conferences and weddings. ... more   less
