Having read very mixed reviews of the Rod and Gun Club we arrived wondering what this establishment was really like. The bungalow accomodation was very clean, very well decorated, comfortable and right on the water. Okay the walls are a bit thin but this didn't spoil our enjoyment of the place at all. The main building oozes atmosphere with it's... more

I will never go back to eat! Service was awful and food was worse! Shrimp Adiatica was raw and Bland. Cold beer was the only part of dinner thatg was worth it. I was reminded that this is off season about 7 times during dinner. more

If you like concrete hotels where everything looks like made yesterday -- this place is not for you. However, this was probably the most characteristic place I ever stayed in the States (or, at least one of a couple such places). You really feel the property is old, you can imagine how the people stayed here hundred years ago. If... more

Interesting property with old trophy room, wood paneling, old pool table. Nice pool, pleasant screened porch that overlooks waterway. Lounge chairs at pool had broken seats and were unusable. Room was small with window air conditioner that cycled on and off. Bathroom shower didn't drain well. Only two towels supplied, with no towels at pool. Surly front desk, acted like... more

The Rod & Gun Club is a very historic lodge and restaurant in Everglades City. One can tell just by looking at the building that this place has a rich and interesting history. Unfortunately, it is beginning to fall into disrepair on the outside. Rotting wood and peeling paint adorn much of this majestic building. The lobby and restaurant are... more

The lodge is beautiful and full of history. The location is a picture setting, but the restaurant is disappointing. The quality of food served is overpriced. The service from our waitress was excellent, but there was a 45 minute wait to receive our order. Their policy is that only one check can be issued per table instead of one per... more

We loved the history and the staff. But we could not stay overnight because we did not have enough cash on hand. They do take personal checks but we do not carry checks with us. They do not accept any type of credit card. more

I got married at the Rod and Gun Club several weeks ago. I chose this place for my destination wedding because there is simply no other place on earth like it. I knew from previous stays there that our guests would have a very special experience. From the time I booked my event with the kind and knowledgeable new office... more

This property is truly Old Florida, a vanishing commodity. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They had recently been updated. The food was good. If you want the Ritz, go to Naples. This is a great place to base a fishing or sightseeing trip. more

Our stay at this historic location was marvelous. The new management team is welcoming and helpful. The rooms have been remodeled without losing the essence of their original rustic hunting and fishing lodge connections. We didn't realize that so many famous people in our natiion's history had stayed there over the previous 100 or so years. We could feel ourselves... more
