My sister and I spent one week in Feb 2010. location was great but accomodation horrible, not clean, bugs in bathroom, owners not hospitable. Have friends in area, they were not welcome to visit. STAY AWAY FROM BATES HOTEL!!!

This was probably the most unique place we have stayed. We loved the charm of it. Very clean inside and never saw any critters. The beach is just a few feet away and I found lots and lots of shark teeth and other fossils. We can't wait to go back. Great restaurants within walking distance.

my relatives helped my family move into beach crud hotel,we paid cash on demand then managers told us no visitors the next day(they did not say anything as we moved in about no visitors) Two days later my bother took ice up to the cooler that was in front of hotel door and owner came from somewhere and called him... My girlfriend and I needed to find a room last minute and called to inquire after noting the rates and location. Sharon was terse on the phone but that might just be her personality. I got into town early and had no trouble finding the place. I was surprised at its charm and abundance of character. There is a mini-rainforest... More

From outside this looks like a quaint small motel as you walk up to the office area you realise that the place is very cluttered with potted plants, ornaments and the like. The owner laboured a number of times no visitors, not a problem as we knew no one from the area, however the multiple signs to say we were... More

From the road this looks like a quaint small motel. The office area and grounds are very cluttered with potted plants, ornaments etc. the owner mentioned a few times no visitors, that's fine we don't know anyone in the area, also had to sign to say we wouldn't let anyone in our room, all a little excessive, with signs everywhere... this is one of those little cute motels of yesteryear...older and quaint...but worn. The problem was the owners. We rented a two bedroom efficiency. We invited family who lives nearby to see how cute it was for family. The room said it slept 4 adults and two children, but better for 2 and 2. We said there were three, when... More

Small, intimate, shady and on the beach. Came down for the annual Super Boat International race for four nights. Enjoyed being able to go out and take photos of the boats and races and then return to the shade.

If you are looking for a big box hotel- This is NOT it. However- if you are looking for a quaint, lovely, beach hotel- This is IT! My husband and I will be frequenting this establishment as our getaway!

Never met the owner but my husbands first words were "not very friendly" . We thought the room was awesome as far as location and comfortable. Only stayed one night. Very funky on the outside with all kinds of plants that could use some grooming. Reminded us a lot of somewhere we would stay in Asia.
