First stayed here 20 years ago and thought we would revisit. Has changed hands several times since and now is much smaller with only 5 bedrooms. Good central location between Kendal and Windermere. Bedrooms are beautifully and tastefully decorated and the bathroom we had was lovely with an old fashioned freestanding rolltop bath. The service was very good and Kerry... More

Booked this very last minute. Good central location for The lakes, even though this pub is in the middle of nowhere. Staff very friendly, food good, bathroom and bedroom very good. We stayed in a deluxe room which was perfect, very clean and modern. Would stay again and recommend.

We are local and know that we are blessed in the Lakes with fine eating houses and pubs. However The Hare & Hounds is by far the best. The reasons are plentiful, its in a lovely setting with the wonderful Cumbrian scenery to gaze at, the building is beautiful with its fireplaces and flag stone floors. The beers are local... More

We went on two consecutive nights for an evening meal, the first being a Sunday. We had the roast dinners off the Sunday specials menu - they were ok, nothing out of the ordinary and certainly nothing better than we've had in other pubs. Typical Sunday lunch-type meal. On the following night, Bank Holiday Monday, I ended up with fish... More

Wonderful old but perfectly renovated pub/ restaurant with spacious and very stylish rooms and great local food. Great starting point for walks. Very friendly staff. Dog friendly. We particularly liked the bathroom, which is spacious, with a free standing bathtub and a big speparate shower. It is relatively near to the m6, and yet very remote and secluded. We loved... More

A friendly reception and we were shown to out lovey large room and bathroom. Everything was clean and stylish and the bed very comforable - just two small niggles: the TV was tiny and the wifi signal weak - only worked for me when I stood by the bedroom door. We had a lovely dinner - the food was good,... More

It's not cheap but once you get past the price everything else excels expectations. It's in a beautiful spot - quiet village but not far from Windermere. It was so quiet and dark at night so perfect for relaxation. There is a little shop opposite perfect for bits n bobs. The food is the best I have had in a... More

Even though we arrived early doors for a meal with the family and not many there it soon filled up for a lovely atmosphere. Great decoration, warm, friendly staff and excellent food. My teenage son tried the burger of the day, duck and damson and loved it! My daughter aged 10 had the full choice of menu just a smaller... More

I spent a week in the Lakes and had this Hotel recommended to me for serving good food and was not disappointed. What started as a meal for one night ended up being about 5 or 6. The food is excellent and service is very good. The staff are helpful and friendly and if you stay in the area, try... More
