Exceptionally friendly, informed and helpful owners--Ruth and Jim, who will help you book a table at the hard to get into the very popular Agave Restaurant. A lovingly restored house with spectacular pubic rooms, a porch, and very comfortable bedrooms The full breakfasts --different every time you visit--with just the right portion sizes are especially good A great location for... Attentive and charming proprietors, good value, well furnished in tasteful historic style, delish food, clean and comfortable, convenient location. We stayed MLK weekend Jan. 2015 and loved staying this B&B while exploring quaint Lewes, DE. ...Wow. Can't go wrong with this one.

Ruth and Jim have made this our second home. Warm and comfy... Excellent breakfast and Great coffee. Port and chocolates after roaming Lewes and Rehoboth. Lewes has great history and is a wonderfully quaint town. Rehoboth Beach is a wonderful family resort with a great boardwalk. If you try it...you'll be back.

Five girlfriends just returned from a wonderful weekend. The John Penrose Virden House is a beautiful, historic bed and breakfast within walking distance of all the restaurants, shops, and historic landmarks in the town of Lewes. Jim and Ruth were excellent hosts. They were informative and helpful by suggesting sites to see and making reservations as needed. We enjoyed wine... More

These folks should run the class for all other innkeepers. They do it all just right. Met us in the parking lot, carried one of our bags. Super friendly. Very nice accommodations, clean, comfy. Acquired a reservation at a restaurant the seemed to be be booked solid. But the part that is the exclamation point was breakfast on their wonderful... More

We have stayed at the Virden House several different times over the past 5 years. Jim and Ruth never disappoint. The place is beautifully maintained, the breakfasts are always excellent, and Jim and Ruth are always cordial hosts. We have stayed at several other places in Lewes because the Virden house was unavailable for our trip. None of them are... More

Been coming for the last eight years. Wonderful hosts, Jim and Ruth and delicious creative breakfasts! Jim and Ruth will recommend other restaurants and make your reservations! The town is quaint and historical. The Virden House is the only place to stay if you're visiting Lewes!

My wife and I discovered the John Penrose Virden House on a summer bike ride from Rehoboth Beach. After parking my bike in the bushes, I walked up on the porch where I met Ruth, who with her husband Jim, runs the B & B. After Ruth gave me a tour of the beautifully decorated rooms and common areas, I... More

My wife and I stayed at the Virden House to celebrate our 40th anniversary. We loved it there. The cottage was great! Breakfast was great! The Port Wine and chocolate were a really nice touch.
