We cannot wait to go back to this B&B and after staying for 2 nights we wish we were there for longer. The house has wonderful antiques and Jim and Ruth are truly wonderful and lovely people. Food: Breakfast is served on the beautiful front porch (I assume it is served in the dining room when the weather is bad).... more

My wife and I just spent a week at the Virden House in Lewes, Delaware owned and operated by Ruth and Jim Edwards. We want to turn right around and go back! Ruth and Jim are the most gracious, friendly, concerned and accomodating B&B owners we have ever met. We stayed in the house's York Cottage, a large room at... more

The husband and wife team of Ruth & Jim make this the best thus far of B&B's we've had the pleasure of staying at. Food exceptional and all the little touches provide a warm homey feeling. My husband and I look forward to our next visit. more

We have stayed at many B&Bs over the years but none compares to Virden House. We just returned from our 5th visit and Lewes is still quaint and quiet, the beaches not too crowded, the restaurants stil interesting and changing. But the real reason we come back every year are the hosts, Jim and Ruth Edwards. They go out of... more

My wife and I had drove through Lewes on our way down to the Outer Banks. A quick drive through the very charming town made us determine to spend a night there. We happened upon the Virden House and were very warmly welcomed by Jim, the owner. Lovely building, very spacious rooms and a terrific gourmet multi-course breakfast were all... more

Enjoyed our stay in this historic B&B located in the historic area of Lewes. The Innkeepers, Jim and Ruth were very friendly and helpful, making us feel right at home. They provided good dinner recommendations after carefully determining our dining interests for the evening. This property is located in the historic section of Lewes with several good restaurants and shops... more

I was looking to stay in a nice Bed & Breakfast while spending a few days with my mom to sight-see and shop in Lewes, Delaware. I booked the Penrose Room at the John Penrose Virden House after reviewing the pictures of this place on the Internet. The pictures didn't do it justice. The location is ideal since it is... more

I was shocked to learn that this would be the first review on Trip Advisor for this wonderful property. First and foremost, there are Jim and Ruth, the consumate hosts. Then there is the impecibly kept gardens, including herbs that are used generously in their creative menus. Then there is the well kept interior that is always spotless. The super... more

What an amazing get away! My husband and I visited Lewes and The Virden House for the first time and can not wait for our next trip. Ruth and Jim are the perfect hosts, we loved everything about our stay with them. The house and garden are beautiful as was our room. As mentioned in the description on their web... more
