So we got stuck in a broken down vehicle in the storm in Cumbria yesterday , what devastation. Breakdown help could not reach us. 200 yards splodge from us was the Watermill which was flooded and closed really! So many many thanks to Brian and his skeleton staff . They made us very welcome with a cheery smile, warm food,... More

We stopped in on a Sunday for a roast dinner. The interior is very charming. Water runs outside and there are many zones within the building, so you can choose a quiet or a noisy zone. A very good selection of beers and a good wine list give you lots of choice. There are daily specials. The roast beef is... More

We decided to nip in here en-route to Keswick - we are so glad we did.... On a wet winters day this place is so cosy and welcoming. Nice traditional oldy-worldy place with a real fire burning away. Traditional decor. One of the features that makes this place quite unique has to be the massive selection of ales. Many of... More

Of driving past this place, we eventually noticed it. Fabulous beer and the food looked good. With all that going on I asked the landlord if they ever did beer festivals or other dogs. He looked at me in a disparaging way and smirked 'why would we?' Well, I would have known about this gem of a pub 20 years... More

We stayed here one night after a recommendation from a friend. We were welcomed on arrival and shown to our room which was appreciated and the chap checked that towels etc were there. We went straight down for food and some ales. Excellent choice of both. The ales were well described and I had no problem choosing. The food came... More

Called in for a beer and lunch while walking to the Hawkshead brewery........ Plenty of beer choices with a good explanation of them over the bar on a blackboard. Nice touch with the 1/3 size tasters too. Had the Cumberland sausage sandwich with chips and pork pie "nibble" between the two of us....very tasty, well presented and well priced. So... More

I had the great pleasure of staying two nights at the Watermill in September. The single room I had was small but comfy & clean (the double rooms are far more spacious) & only one flight of stairs from the bar. Throughout my stay the service was prompt & friendly. The pub gets very busy with diners early evening, &... More

I have eaten in this hotel on a number of occasions,in particular when we lived in Ambleside. We have eaten together, with friends and with the Ambleside U3A lunch club. Joining the above group recently for lunch my wife and I asked to be served as soon as possible as we had an appointment to keep in the afternoon. In the... More

We arrived too early to check in which we knew and planned to have some lunch, when I said hi to the barman and explained we were staying for 3 nights, he simply said "well you can't get into your rooms till 2pm" he was really rude, not a good start. The rooms were dated and really small, we don't... More
