Here is a review if you're trying to decide about where to stay in Westbrook. The Captain Stannard: - Is perfectly located a block from the beach & a 4 min. drive from a nice, easy hike in the Salt Meadow National Wildlife Refuge - Is very nicely furnished, has lots of space for games/playing pool/sitting and reading, a lovely... We arrived and were just stunned by the beauty of the house, the foyer and the front lobby. There were welcoming notes everywhere communicating clearly where everything was. We could help ourselves to complimentary coffee, tea, iced tea, water, soda, computer use, printer, etc.etc.etc Then the brownies. Whew. In our room was waiting complimentary Perrier, a note with our names... More

We loved staying at this B&B for a staycation (just 2 nights). Jim, Helen, & Mary are the kindest people you will ever meet. Breakfast was delicious!!!!! Oh, I can't forget about the surprise brownies waiting for us when we came back from a day out. We will definatley be staying here again. :0)

We stayed here with four other couples! We were pampered but left alone to enjoy each others company. The rooms were beautiful, elegant yet simple, clean and bright and the entire inn was inviting! The best part - was the added treat that greeted us after a long day! A FLOURLESS BROWNIE! left with an adorable note on the table... More

A perfect place for a romantic getaway. From the fresh baked brownies in your room upon arrival to the delicious breakfast, every part of our stay was just wonderful. The staff were warm and welcoming, taking every step to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Our room was absolutely beautiful - very clean and well-appointed. This most certainly will... More

My friends and I came for a crafty weekend retreat and we loved it!! Highly recommend it! A lovely home full of charm and grace. I completely enjoyed my experience at the Captain Stannard House. Each room is beautiful in its own way with pretty linens, artwork and antique furniture. A peaceful respite from our noisy lives in NYC. Helen... More

I started traveling to Westbook/Saybook/Centerbrook area for some business seminars. I discovered the Capt Stannard after recommendations from another seminar attendee, and now I would not think about staying elsewhere. First, it's as cute as a button. Clean, spacious, and homey. I got a tour of the inn from Helen (the nicest person) and loved the fresh baked cookie with... More

I have stayed at the Inn a total of 8 times, 3 nights each time, adding up to 24 peaceful, cozy nights. The staff has become an extended family to me, reliable and consistent (wish my family were so! LOL). My reasons for staying repeatedly are endless, but in a word, consistency. Jim, Mary and Helen were consistently warm, friendly... More

I have visited Old Saybrook area for the last 24 months for business and have stayed nearly every stay at Captain Stannard House. When I didn't for reasons of cost cutting, I always regretted it. Jim, Mary, and Helen make me feel like family every visit. They knew what I liked and had it ready for me every morning. At... More

With family in the Westbrook area of Connecticut, I have stayed at several other nice bed & breakfast inns in the last few years. The Captain Stannard is the first one to which I look forward to returning. Mary, Jim and Helen make a superb team, with genuine, welcoming hospitality in a first rate historic building. The rooms are traditional,... More
