MARCH 2013--- My wife and I stopped for a night on the way back to MA from NYC. The Inn is close to all the major routes but on the outskirts of town to give you a country feel. The inn keeper, Frank, was great on pre arrival instructions. We came in after hours and he had everything set up... More

Thanks very much. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay in Silvermine. Next time, if the weather is warmer, you can enjoy the walk along the Silvermine River. I hope you'll be able to visit again soon. More

The Silvermine Tavern is a true mixed bag. You want to love it, but you just can't. There are some wonderful things about it -- it's full of antiques, the innkeeper is very nice and knowledgeable, the surrounding neighborhood is charming, and attention is given to little touches -- excellent bath linens, a detailed self-guided walking tour of the town,... Thanks for taking the time to comment on your Silvermine stay. I’m glad you found so many nice things to say about the inn and Silvermine – we find it charming too. I’m sorry about the maintenance issues you highlighted. There is a never-ending to do list on a 200 year old building like ours. The list is particularly long... More

The Inn is located in a beautiful and historical neighborhood. Be sure to take the walking tour he outlines for you. The homemade granola and honey buns are a nice addition to the continental breakfast.

We spent several days at Silvermine Tavern for a family event. We’d been frequent visitors in the past, first at luscious Sunday brunches on the deck when we lived in Norwalk, and later, when we moved, as guests in the Tavern when the restaurant was still opened. We wondered how it would feel now that the restaurant is closed. First,... More

I stayed here for 1 day by myself and I am dying to bring my friends and family with me again. The rooms are comfortable, and furbished very well so that they have a very homey feel. It included all the amenities needed, as well as adorable extra touches such as corn to feed the local ducks with, an outline... More

It was our second stupendous stay! This Inn / Bed and Breakfast has been operating for over 83 years. The buildings are over 200 years old, and the same family has operated it for 57 years. The buildings and grounds will lead you to think you are in colonial times. The setting is magnificent; on a clear running river, overlooking a... More

We visited Silvermine Tavern on our honeymoon road trip. What you will find are a beautiful historic house and milieu, charmingly decorated rooms, and most of all, a cultivated super-nice innkeeper. I highly recommend a stay if you’re visiting the state :)

We stopped at the Silvermine Tavern on the way to a family vacation on Cape Cod. We chose this inn because we wanted to visit The Glass House in nearby New Canaan. Frank, the Innkeeper, met us and showed us around. He was friendly and accomodating and provided us with lots of recommendations for restaurants and local attractions. When he... More

The Silvermine Tavern offers an increasingly rare experience of an old building that has not been drained of its character in order to fit the fads of contemporary travellers. This is a unique place where you can feel the ambiance of a previous era whilst enjoying a wonderful reception from Frank Whitman the proprietor. If you want a hotel knee... More

My stay at the Silvermine Tavern was wonderful. I was greeted by Frank at the door when I arrived. He was friendly and informative. I was staying in the area for a tour of the Philip Johnson Glass House and Frank provided me with a book that gave me some great background information before my tour. A welcome packet was... More
